My questions would be:

Do you not believe in the infallibility of the magesterium of the Church with regard to matters of faith and morals?

Do you not trust the Holy Spirit to guide the Church to the fullness of the Truth?

If so, then how could you possibly regard your opinion over that of the magesterium?

You can’t have it both ways, accept the magesterium protection on old matters but reject it on new matters. You either accept and trust at all times or you don’t.
Well said! I fully agree!

That is also why I started receiving Communion on the tounge, as is the case with some others at my church. We found we were routinely inspecting and/or licking our hands after Communion to consume the fragments of the Sacred Host. We all felt it’s much safer from that standpoint to receive on the tounge.
Hmmm, the host our parish uses has never broken down in my hands. I receive it in my palm and immediately use my index finger and thumb ever so gently to place it in my mouth before even turning away from the priest or EMHC…between the composition of the host and the immediacy with which I consume it there’s no time or opportunity for the host to break down outside my mouth.

For those who have had this problem is it because of the type of hosts your parish uses or something else?

Just curious. Other than not having latin masses, apparently weather one could hold the host before consuming, ecuminicism (Sp?), what is the diffrence between a VCII Catholic and a Traditional Catholic?

Example; Communion in the hand. Do any of you believe that lay people like ourselves are worthy to hold the body of our Lord in our sinful hands? That has always been a sacrilege.
Not true.In approaching therefore, do not come up with your wrists apart or with your fingers spread, but make your left hand a throne for the right, since you are about to receive into it a King. And having hollowed your palm, receive the Body of Christ, saying over it Amen.

St Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lectures, [23 (*Mystagogic 5), 21]
ca. A. D. 325]

Since there are some who are bending their knee on Sunday and on the days of Pentecost, the holy council has decided, so that there will be uniformity of practice in all things in every diocese, that prayers are to be directed to God from a standing position.

Communion in the hand, standing during the prayer of Consecration … oh my!

I’m positive we get our hosts from approved sources. I have no idea why they sometimes fragment, but the fact is it happened to several of us, and now we receive Communion on the tongue, and that is well within our rights as Catholics to do so.

Let’s not forget to consider that EMHCs go to confession weekly (at least in our parish) so that they are worthy to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ. Probably more worthy than the bulk of the people going up to receive Him, imo, since there are so many who go up weekly while the confession lines are under 10 people per week, maybe 50 in a month?
I have only ever seen two of our EMHC in the confession line. There is one gentleman who is a EMHC who says he doesn’t need to go to Confession because he says the Confiteor at the beginning of Mass. Another lady who just moved away doesn’t believe in Confession to a priest, so she never goes either.

It would be nice if the EMHC set a good example by going to Confession weekly. I’m just wondering here, whose parish is the exception?

I don’t really care much what the other folks may or may not do in my parish, as they are not my problem. (My problem is to intercede for them and let the Holy Spirit grow them up His way and maybe be there as His tool if He wants me to be.)

So long as we keep our eyes on the people around us we are going to see imperfections (especially if we let the devil distract us from looking to Our Lord…remember Peter walking out to Jesus on the water?) but that is not as important as me doing what I know the Lord has given me the graces and gifts to accomplish (Did anyone pay attention to the Gospel this past Sunday? Mt 25:14-30 ).

If I’m not busy using every gift that God has given me to build up His church right here where He in His wisdom has put me then I am the one messing up…and the Body of Christ is all the poorer for it and I will be held accountable for that.
Pax vobiscum,

These are figures from the U.S. only. My point is that if you do not obey the requests of our Lord and His Mother, they may well withdraw their protections from the Church…and then you see (if you are willing to see) the sad things that happen to our Church. Example; Communion in the hand. Do any of you believe that lay people like ourselves are worthy to hold the body of our Lord in our sinful hands? That has always been a sacrilege. But no more. An unimportant change? Just one of many in the Novus Ordo.
A) Fatima is not a dogma or a doctrine. We are not required by the magisterium of the Church to believe in Fatima at all.

B) Christ will never withdraw His Protection from the Church. He promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against her. What you suggest isn’t Catholic at all, let alone “traditional.”

C) In actuality, communion in the hand was the pratice of the Church in at least the Apostolic and Patristic periods.

You would do well to read objective Church history, as opposed to radical traditionalist propaganda.

I wasn’t suggesting your hosts weren’t fragmenting or commenting about receiving on the tongue because of that, I honestly was wondering what the difference was between the hosts. I know that at our parish it’s round, very condensed, small and thin but at the church a mile out in the other direction they actually have this small rectangular puffy one, kinda chewy…so if there are two types of hosts being used in my own town I’m wondering what type those of you who are experiencing crumbs are like.

On a side note I went into the local Christian bookstore to buy small trinkets for my RE students and noticed on one shelf 5 different brands of communion wafers…I didn’t know what to make of it. Some were white, some were brown…it was odd to me to just see boxes of them on a shelf.

Oh judging by many of the threads on this forum I’m not so certain either is an exception anymore, sadly. I wouldn’t be surprised if half our parishes have EMHCs who regard confession as it should be and the other half not. It’s just another example of the sorry state our parishes are in and what I don’t understand is how these differences happen under the same diocesan bishop…The more I read about abuses on the boards the more I appreciate our parish, it’s rather orthodox from the core, but our parishioners, oh, it’s sad and frustrating with the lack of spirit moving through them. They don’t realize how good they have it here and are taking the Mass and the Parish staff for granted.
