Some Examples Of Holiness?

I suppose we could all write a book on that one, J… 😃

Jesus taught us that we can know the tree by its fruit, and I believe that our words are the single biggest clue to how good the inner self is. Since we are focusing this Sunday on Jesus’s sermon on the Mount with all the really hard sayings, these may be the test by which we can determine how much we have the Spirit of Jesus within us.

Are we doing good to those who persecute us?

Do we cheerfully give to those who ask our help? even if “unasked” through sensing their need?

How kind are our words to those who insult and demean us?

Can we honestly say that we hold no attachment to our pet sins? and would be grieved immediately if we found that we offended God?

When others “seem” to be at fault, do we avoid judging their motives and put a charitable assumption on it?

Is forgiveness a prompt response to injury?

A biggee … Jesus was sent to His death due to jealousy of His enemies. Do we revere others who oppose us so that our tongues will not be used to rip to shreds their good name? and leave the matter in God’s hands?

Just a few off the top of my head. (and seeing within myself a mea culpa to do better)

I dodn’t know how I could have forgotten this one, but it too, is important for growth in holiness: * obedience to lawful authority.* It always brings awe to my mind when I consider that Jesus (God Incarnate) obeyed frail humans who had authority over Him.

Luke 2
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them.

Romans 13
1 Let every soul be subject to higher powers: for there is no power but from God: and those that are, are ordained of God.

Ephesians 5
24 Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things.

Hebrews 13
17 Obey your prelates, and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you.
