I came across these words recently, which I believe are worth sharing:

(Words of Our Lord to Bl. Bernard Francis de Hoyos): ‘**Never show yourself without courage **when in temptation, as your enemy is only waiting for that as the signal to redouble his assaults…

Although you do not feel Me in your heart, **I am there to fortify you **and maintain your courage. [When] troubled by the enemy, ***do not wear yourself out *trying to make acts contrary to the temptation in such a way that you can feel them; make them gently or vocally, for you will never find the feelings you seek to have…

In shameful temptations you must only have patience, as when you desire to seek refuge in Me you will seem unable to find Me…

When assailed by despair, behave just as I have told you, be calm and patient while the attack is violent, and afterwards have recourse to Me and make contrary acts.

In temptations to blasphemy, when you imagine you rise up against Me or My Mother or the saints, do not be uneasy. Far from offending Me, you are pleasing to Me for you make efforts to resist what the enemy suggests to you. But pronounce with your lips the opposite to what you are feeling. Even though you seem to do so only as a matter of form, you really do it with all your heart. In all these struggles defy the enemy with great courage; and be not troubled, as he is only waiting for that to persuade you that you have consented and to lead you to despair.’

Pax.

Thank you for that!

I go through that every single day with every single prayer. Sometimes it feels like, “What’s the point of praying if I can’t even say Our Father without a troubling and distracting thought?” The inability to control wandering, daydreaming thoughts seems so burdensome and despairing, and it makes even Mass burdensome, as God is obligating me to find Him and be in His presence in such a shameful state.

(Also, I love your blog!)

As a recently baptized and confirmed Catholic I became almost immediately and keenly aware of the temptations thrown at me. Seems like the devil didn’t like that in the least. When I’m being tempted and find it difficult to pray I do it anyway. I will say the Jesus Prayer which puts me in a state of prayer. Then I pray the Our Father and that really has helped and puts me at peace.

Hi Littlestsouls,
If I may qualify what you posted, we RESIST the devil, and therefore temptations
in Jesus’ power, not on OUR OWN!
We are courageous in battle because we are SUBMITTED wholly to the fear
of God!
We are patient in suffering because we have learned that God doesn’t willingly
ALLOW suffering, it is NECESSARY because of the presence of Death( and
therefore the devil) in this earthly life.
ALSO we take our “stand” against the devil when we are “on our knees”
(in an attitude of humble prayer)!
Oh, by the way I LOVE your blog of May 2013 on the exclamation prayers(Short
prayers of the saints)!

EIF5A: You are welcome! It is definitely important to remember that God asks for our good-will; success is His domain. Thank you for your appreciation 🙂

Papix2: You have the right idea: when tempted, pray!

GLam8833: I certainly agree that without God we can do nothing, and all victory comes from Him. It is consoling to know that our weakness is a key to God’s strength. He does not command the impossible; therefore we can rely on His grace to conquer. Thank you for your kinds words 🙂
