but the final judgement and your death is probably a good thing to keep in the forefront of your mind as you make decisions throughout your life.
Not for a person with moral OCD. That is the point of my thread.

Blessings
We are all Christians under Construction. Bring ALL THE LITTLE CHILDREN TO JESUS. DO NOT keep the little children from coming forward.
He sees our Spirits and Souls. Our bodies are our crosses to bear. We all have handicaps, seen or unseen. Do not run from death. The struggle is over and the Victory is won.
DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY?? DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING???
In Christ’s Love

Why would you want to deny anyone the actual fulfillment of the Truth, of Jesus Christ?
The afflicted, the suffering…He came for all.

Hello.

Couldn’t agree more with you that Jesus came for all of us. God bless you and please pray for me.

At least in Christianity, they are taught that they have a God who loves them.
For them to stay Christian, they need to be mentored by sensitive Catholics who don’t reinforce negative punishments by a powerful God.
Right, that means they need a priest and not a heretic. 😋

From the Old Testament, 7 of the 8 attributes of God have to do with Mercy
  • merciful
  • gracious
  • slow to anger
  • ubundant steadfast love
  • faithfulness
  • storing up merciful love
  • forgiving of iniquity, transgression, and sin
Only the 8th is deals with justice by saying he will not clear the guilty.

This is from Exodus 34:6-7, which is one the the MOST important passages for the Jews and is the most repeated verse in the entire Bible (meaning the other parts of the Bible repeat Ex 34:6-7)

Depends on the priest. And the kind of Catholic I’m talking about often inhabits Christian internet Forums. Judgemental, finger-wagging and fear-mongering.

Watch the series “Forgiven” on FORMED.org, you will learn a lot about God’s love for us, and I would surely have some with scrupulously watch that series.

God Bless

So, you think it is not good for someone with scrupulosity to think about these things because you think it would make them more worried?
Now, I don’t know what’s healthy. I’m going to admit that I suffer from scrupulosity and intrusive, repetitive thoughts (perhaps that is why I am so into this thread!) I think what helps is what I’ve outlined in my first post in this topic. But, I believe it is important to not go to extremes. To not pretend that whatever you do is fine, and to not think that whenever you miss the mark, you’re done for. If you survive a moment after sinning, it means you still have a chance to repent. You are not done for!
So what I think is important is to learn the truth. That justice shall be served and that mercy flows forth from God’s Justice. That He suffered and died for us! He has treated us like the god!
It is important to avoid sin, but also to know what sin is. This is why clear guidelines can be so helpful as in Canon law. It probably gets better the more and more you grow in Christ and He grows in you.

Another thing, it’s important for scrupulous people probably to stop focusing on sin so much but focus on what you can do for God to serve Him. That can be difficult to do sometimes.

A scrupulous person will have trouble in any religion
Yes I agree. But Catholicism is potentially one of the worst , a minefield of detail. When I was a kid we had to memorise much of the catechism at school.
OK officially for example masturbation is a sin. Now a morally ocd teenager
is going to take that one to heart and feel enormous amounts of guilt if he does it even once.

So what is your solution?
I have a touch of OCD, and instead of focusing on hell and damnation, I work on focusing on God’s mercy and his will and repeat Scripture when I have intrusive thoughts. I don’t watch movies or read books about the devil.
Do you think I’d be better of in Islam, which doesn’t teach that God is merciful? Or as an atheist, abandoned to despair?
I’ll stick with Catholicism, thank you, and try to ignore the finger waggers.

If it were a case of what do you perceive to be a bigger issue having a relaxed attitude towards thing concerning the faith or a tenancy to being scrupulous. I know what I would prefer to be struggling with.

Sadly, all of us are not suited to being human. Just look how it’s going.

I totally agree with you Colonel, i didnt even know this existed before i discovered these forums, but the amount of time spent on topics like ‘is it a sin to…?’ is terrifying. It must be a horrible way to live to constantly worry

I think Buddhism can help some OCDers psychologically. As long as they avoid the dogmas such as reincarnation. And of course therapies such as CBT are useful.
My assertion is that some OCDers who have a mild dose can actually do quite well. It is the severe cases that concern me.

It’s hardly fear-mongering. It’s preaching the Gospel . so if a person takes issue with it, then t’s not on the Catholic’s side who is speaking the truth in charity.

Exactly. Daily if you scan the list of topics you will always see newbies seeking advice about such minor, trivial sins (not always but often).

Very interesting that as a catholic you suggest Christians take up Buddism 🤔
If I thought that way I would not call my self a good catholic.

Again… this is why a person who is scrupulous needs to have a Spiritual Adviser.
