Some people at my Church perplex me

My point was that the form of Liturgy has nothing to do with an individual person’s reverence. Unless there’s a reverence and modesty police at the door to screen people, being in a traditional parish doesn’t really guarantee anything. The form of Mass doesn’t instantly catechize people.
I agree entirely, in fact I stated that I saw your point. I was just saying that to attend the TLM it takes a bit more preparation, you have to pay closer attention to follow, you need a bit more patience. Someone who is not properly catechized likely would not “go through the trouble” of attending the TLM.

I think both. The atmosphere of the TLM (I believe) demands reverence. And, not that people are problems, but people are poorly catechized. Look at Constantine’s post about the little boy playing with the Host in his mouth. Who taught him his catechism? Who taught Him that That Host was Our Lord? Were his parents in the pew with him? I just think that those who take the time, the preparation, the education to learn and attend the TLM are properly catechized and have a good understanding of what they are actually attending when they are at Mass.

The truth of the matter is the people who seek the TLM today are those who are very devout in their faith. So reverence during Liturgy is a given. If you force every Roman Catholic to attend the TLM, the bad apples you see in the OF parishes today will be in the TLM and thus you will see the same lack of reverence.

Right, especially that the Liturgy is in another language. Most poorly catechized or those who were just dragged to church by their spouses or parents would prefer something at least they can understand.

  1. Pray for the little boy who’s mother seems to not be concerned with him but only with herself and how he makes her look.
  2. Head for the nearest TLM. None of the issues you mention will be there.
1)👍 and remember we’ve all probably said something wrong towards our children at one time or another not really thinking it through.

2)Isn’t it sometimes better to stay where one is and be the silent witness/example that perhaps God wants us to be? Be the one still dressing properly, with a big smile and greeting. Not to say maybe asking the priest to mention inappropriate dress is a bad idea either.

We can all learn something from each other, even if it’s just how to be more charitable.

I would go to the head priest at your church, and explain what you have witnessed, and have him make some kind of announcement at the end of mass/during mass about correct parenting (of course he won’t mention any names), and appropriate wear to church. Our priest did this several years ago, and it helped enormously.

Heavenly Father, in faith, I thank You for taking care of these situatuions. Amen.
of course this announcement won’t happen until next week’s Mass and half the families (including many of those whose members and guests were guilty of the irreverent behavior) will not be coming back to Mass after 1st communion. Sad but true.

I go to a great parish with many devout people. The only time I encounter people that are clueless about Catholicism is when I have to take one of my children to a mandatory meeting/class/presentation. This is when reverence is thrown to the wind and people can’t master basics like going up for communion and returning to their pew or even simply sit still.

I hope this woman has a real conversion. I can appreciate your venting.

Hmmmmmm! The Priests in the churches, in my area, make it a point (when necessary) to make announcements reference unacceptable behavior as soon as they step on the altar. The standards of acceptable behavior are made clear to all from the beginning. Those who diverge are dealt with immediately.

One Sunday in last December we shared a pew at a TLM with a woman whose jeans were wholly bereft of a backside. She was wearing tights underneath. And a mantilla on her head.:rotfl:

It takes all kinds, I guess.
