Some Questions on the appears of Knock Shrine

I have been going to knock shrine for years now. But I never figured out why did Our Lady, St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist appeared at the South gable of the church. And especially why did St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist come when no other appearance witness these two people with the blessed mother of god?? If you think that strange what do you think of this “On the altar stood a lamb, facing the west and behind the lamb a large cross stood upright? Angels hovered around the lamb for the duration of the apparition” the lamb was the sign of the lamb of god. And what is the lamb of god meant to mean???. Also was St. John the Evangelist a bishop on earth??. Is their mass in heaven??

Over the years I have pondered the Apparition at Knock and have come to understand that the Apparition of Mary, Joseph and John is a very strong message for the family and linked to that a very strong message about the centrality of the Holy Mass within the Catholic family.

Think about it: Mary and Joseph are husband and wife and John is the one entrusted to Mary as her son at the foot of the Cross. This speaks very strongly to me of the importance of the nuclear family in Ireland. The family has always been strong but in these days is under radical attack from political powers, self interest pressure groups and personal greed.

Yes! St John the Evangelist was a Bishop on earth just as all the Apostles were.

And yes as the book of revelation tells us the marriage feast of the Lamb, the Holy Mass is in Heaven now for them. It is a perpetual Mass.

The lamb on the altar is Christ. This imagery is in keeping with the reality that the 'lamb of God, Jesus himself is the sacrifice offered once and for all. The sacrifice being represented, or made present again, i an unbloody manner on our Altars every time Holy Mass is offered. The Cross behind the Lamb links the sacrifice of the Lamb (Jesus) to the Cross where the Sacrifice was effected in history.

Perhaps most incredible is the fact that there were no words spoken by any of those Heavenly Visitors through the whole apparition, yet Knock gives one of the most powerful messages any Apparition has ever given on the nuclear family.

Keep going to Knock shrine. It is a special place of great graces and blessings. I love to go there when I can. It is only 3 hours away from where I live.
 
Another very interesting fact is that despite the fact that no words were spoken, the people knew who and what they were looking at!! How many of us today could do that? I have often thought about it myself and think that the visit was a “thank you” for remaining faithful though both the penal days and the misery of the famine.

To fully understand the message of Knock we must look at the history of the people who lived there. The Mass was always very important, even in penal times, as can be seen by the many Mass rocks dotted around the country.

1917 Fatima

These countries are close to each other meaning something. Did she want to warn us about something was going to happen if people didn’t praying enough or what…it’s very strange no message for Ireland but there was message in the other apparitions countries. Or else…

it is a bit over simplistic to say that just because Our Lady gave no verbal message at Knock that there was no message for Ireland. There was a very clear message for Ireland. Yes no verbal words were given but that does not automatically mean there is no message.

Perhaps you should read the text of the late Pope John Paul II’s homily given in Knock in 1979. I think you will get a better understanding of Heaven’s design on Knock. or better still listen to the man himself as he delivers his homily. pope John Paul II’s Homilies to the People of Ireland

To me it is perhaps the most theologically rich and supernaturally mysterious apparitions that world has seen to date.

Most religious websites never include knock shrine in the discussion. Just wondering is knock shrine not known in the US or what :confused:

In 1997 my wife and I, our 6 week old daughter, my 11 and 9 yr old sons, my in-laws and my mother and aunt went to Ireland for 3 weeks. My wife wanted to go to Knock and after a few days at Ashford castle we went for an afternoon. I found it holy but did not feel the deep apreciation others including my wife felt. However, I had the 3 kids for most of the time we were there.

My wife and I had gone to Ireland on our honeymoon my aunt and I when I graduated law school. My wife and I had also made another trip. we love Ireland.
 
I do not think Knock is well known in the US or outside the Irish community.

I am not sure what the meaning of the apparition at Knock is, what is it that JP says? I would go to the homily but I am very busy and should not even be visiting the website?

Yes! My Pastor talks about Knock, all the time! He is a native of Ireland… and lived in the Knock area. He visited the Shrine… often.

I once heard someone say, that Our Lady (along with St. Joseph and St. John Evangelist) appeared at Knock… during a time of great suffering for the Irish people. And that this silent apparition… was Her way of encouraging the faithful people of Ireland, to persevere during the difficult times they were in.

What a wonderful thought! She is truly our Mother. ❤️
 
I visited with my family not many people there during work , I had 3 kids an infant and 2 boys 11 and 9 so I did not have the opportunity to really get close to God, I will say the place seems to be the most Holy place I have ever been to, but maybe i was expecting that.

My parents were born in Ireland so I did hear of our Lady of Knock
when growing up.

I heard the story while very young and then investigated it myself when older, from what I remember, the time during which it happened was a very bleak time for Ireland, probably the reason St. John was with her was because the Church where they appeared had been dedicated to him, perhaps they were just
assuring the people of their presence, that they were with them
through their sufferings and to unite their sufferings to Jesus, the
Lamb of God who also offered Himself for us.

My own thought is that they were standing with the people of Ireland, just as they had stood at the foot of HIS cross.

Prayer to Our Lady of Knock
“Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you gave hope to your people in a time of distress and comforted them in sorrow. You have inspired countless pilgrims to pray with confidence to your Son, remembering His promise: “Ask and your shall receive, seek and you shall find.” Help me to remember that we are all pilgrims on the road to heaven. Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those who live with me. Comfort me when I am sick or lonely or depressed. Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the holy Mass. Pray for me now, and at the hour of my death. Amen. Our Lady of Knock, pray for us.”
 
I think Knock is pretty well known as far as apparitions go. Especially where there is a strong Irish Catholic presence.
