okay, so i just found out im pregnant. JUST found out, like 30 minutes ago. i havent even confirmed it w/ a 2nd preg test yet, but im starting to freak out. i dont know how far along i am, as we werent even trying, but last weekend i had a few beers with some friends, and i had some martinis at the family thanksgiving. should i be concerned or am i overreacting?

considering that in my day we were actually advised by our doctors to have a drink every day, esp. beer (good for nursing mothers too), I would not freak, but I would definitely get the doc’s advice on vitamins. Doctors learn more, the advice changes, expectant mothers do the best they can, and still sad things happen, but I believe when they do, we really cannot know the whole reason, and do not benefit by worrying about something we can’t change. Just focus on doing what you need for yourself and your baby from now on in and don’t fret, since worry itself is not the best for you.

My dear sister, please let the Lord give you calm. You and the baby will be fine. Just be aware in the future of the need for care. Congratulations, and give yourself a bit of nurture time.
With love, Trishie

thanks so much for your advice and support. i reminded dh of the drinks and he said we shouldnt worry, but should tell the dr about it. im still in shock, have no idea of a due date, and can already feel my legs swelling! ha!

Congratulations! And don’t worry at all about the drinks… no more of course, but what you had already won’t hurt a thing!

Do you know the date of your last period? You can google “estimated due date” and plug that number in and it will tell you approx when you’re due. Call a doctor… you should be taking pre-natals…

Children are a blessing! You will love being a Mom! 🙂

What she said! :yup:

Well, as someone who didn’t find out they were pregnant with the second until 15 weeks  , don’t worry and congrats!! 😃

The body has natural defenses protecting the baby in these early weeks so rest easy. Trust in God and know His timing is perfect.

Congratulations!
Wishing you a healthy, happy 9 months.

Start taking folic acid and a prenatal vitamin.

Don’t worry. A few drinks that early on isn’t gonna hurt! My wife and I had a few big nights out before we found out she was expecting…

…and our twins are clearly genious-children. I Hate to think how smart they would be if they weren’t always knocking their heads on things.

hehe

Calm down and congratulations! Recent research indicates the alcohol or drugs that effects the unborn child is constant during the nine months of pregnancy, not a few beers or martinis here and there.

I know a fetal alcohol and drug-effected young woman. I also know her mother. Trust me, it was not a few beers or even martinis that caused the girl’s syndrome and learning differences. The parents drank heavily (like at least a 1/2 bottle of Jack Daniel’s a day) and ingested illicit drugs well before (constant drinking and drugging over years, every day), during and after her birth.

Congratulations! :dancing:

My nephew’s wife drinks a beer or two every night. With her first pregnancy, she didn’t realize she was pregnant until she was 5 months along. Their baby started saying words before he was a year old. 😃 IMHO he is smart…smart…well, he’s just very smart.😃

Back in the dark ages, when my former husband’s mother was pregnant, she drank a couple bourbon on the rocks every night. My former husband is extremely bright, athletic and talented.

My mother drank a glass of wine every night she was pregnant with me. Oh…maybe I’m not the best testimonial for a little alcohol during pregnancy:p . hehehe

Anyway, when I was pregnant, my doctor told me an occasional glass of wine during pregnancy was fine. He said the problem was that many women don’t know how to stick to just the occasional indulgence. (I drank a few glasses of wine before realizing I was pregnant. My daughter is an honor roll student. She is president of three clubs at school. She is also an officer in two others. She has a boyfriend. She is in band. She is in choir and she cantors at church.) (She is a sweet daughter, too.)
So… don’t worry yourself over a few drinks.

But can she cook?

You should be fine farm. DH and I went dancing when unbeknownst to me I was pregnant with my dd. (2nd child) I had a few glasses of wine on that night, and felt the same angst. Congrats on your pregnancy, and may you have a blessed and healthy one! Just go to your doctor regularly for prenatal visits–very very important.🙂

I don’t think it should be a problem, but don’t drink any more…I have read that a glass of wine is good but I got drunk before I found out I was pg with my second child, and I found out when I was almost 3 months pg. He was born healthy and is a smart child but has problems in school. He’s not considered autistic, nor ADD, but still has problems…He gets bored easily and is lazy for regular school work; but you put art infront of him and he’s great in art…

thanks for all the words of comfort. i dont really know when my last period was, but im guessing that im about a month along. ive been taking prenatals since my last pregnancy, so i should be good to go there, thank goodness! i just kept taking them b/c the dr said to do so for at least 6 months, but dd is now almost 1 1/2 years old. i just kept taking them instead of switching to a regular multivitamin b/c i had bought such a big bottle of them!

anyway, thanks so much again. im calling the dr office to set up an appt right away.

Here in Europe they don’t tell you ‘ABSOLUTELY no alcohol during pregnancy’ because moderate amounts here and there really won’t hurt the baby. (Not advocating drinking in pregnancy here, just easing the woman’s mind because there is nothing to worry about).

Early in pregnancy - in the first week or so - the baby is not yet even connected to mom’s bloodflow.

To expand on what LitCrit said, it takes the majority of the first trimester for the placenta to fully develop. So very early in pregnancy, the connection between mom & baby’s systems is not complete. That is protective in situations like this… I am sure you and baby are fine. Though I sympathize. With my first I had just enough implantation bleeding to fool me into thinking I wasn’t pregnant. So I did jello shots with my DH and BIL that night! A month later when I found out I was PG and much further along than I thought, I was terrified for the baby.

She is now 10, healthy as a horse, and a year ahead in school.

Don’t worry, just go from here doing the right things.

And congrats on your pregnancy! 😃
