Somebody please ease my mind

First off, congratulations!!!

I wouldn’t worry about a couple of drinks. No more, of course, but things should be fine. I had a drink the day before I found out I was pregnant with this baby.

I think you’ve already had plenty of people ease your mind but how about one more…

Before I knew I was pregnant with DD, I went with my best friend to her bachellorette party. It was just me and her but we went to six flags and rode every ride TWICE and then we went out and got smashed… I know EXACTLY how you feel!!! I was a WRECK for the remainder of my pregnancy thinking that I damaged this poor little soul.

She seems to be a normal little 4 year old. Plus she likes six flags!

When we were stationed overseas I had German and Italian docs who thought Americans were a bit loony for this rule. My doc said no liquor, but beer and wine are fine.

In my own personal opinion, Americans are a sue-happy culture and if a doctor says a couple drinks a week is ok, then he’d be sued for anything that might be wrong with the baby when born. I never drank regularly when pregnant, but if it was a special occasion, holiday etc. then I’d have a glass or even… gasp… two!!

And in Germany, the nurses had beer on the maternity ward to help get that milk going.

It has always been an Italian custom for a nursing mother to have a little wine to help “make good nurse” as my grandmother used to say. And of course, everyone knows how smart we Italians are, so it didn’t hurt us a bit!

I doubt it. Most men don’t take well to starvation. He’ll probably learn to cook. Cooking is IN for men today. My DH and his friends love to talk about food and cooking. When my daughter got married, my SIL quizzed my husband until he gave up all his cooking secrets!

There’s nothing wrong with men knowing how to cook…what era are we in, people?

My husband met me in his early 30’s…he needed to learn how to cook for himself or he would starve. It’s almost 2009…men and women can both cook.

I hate cooking…I like baking, but I don’t like cooking. Thankfully, my husband fell in love with me for other reasons! I would not be impressed with a man my dd brings home someday, who would be a throwback to the 50’s or something. If you know how to cook as a woman, great. If you don’t…you can learn, certainly…but men make great chefs too.

The great likelihood is that no harm was done. Pray for peace of mind.
I had some alcohol early on in 3 pregnancies, and had healthy babies.

I think everyone else has already reassured you, but let me add my two cents. In the mid 80s when I was pregnant with my first, my father (who was an MD) and my mother took my husband and me out to dinner to celebrate. I had my father’s wholehearted approval to drink a single glass of wine. I wouldn’t be telling you this if my pregnancy hadn’t turned out absolutely normal. My son never suffered any ill effects.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

I was told by a number of OBs in my day that I could easily have a few drinks per week, just not to get drunk. I wouldn’t worry either, just take yourself to your dr.

Congratulations! and God Bless! Wishing you a joyful nine months! It’s wonderful to think that in nine month you are going to bring a new life into the world. There’s nothing greater!

Please don’t worry about your alcohol consumption, I remember going thought the same angst when I first realized I was pregnant… when I told the doctor, she was not that concerned and a healthy baby was the end result.
