Someone hinted that I could go to Hell?

Someone said that if I were to become a Catholic, that I would be “worshiping” very wrong and that this is something Satan is wanting to happen. They also said that if I were to do this… they question where I will be at in the afterlife, since they say it is the “wrong thing.”

I really do not like it when this happens. This happened before we watched a Catholic video in Spanish Class (she gets off topic at times) and so people thought it was bad, and some were making fun of Catholics. Especially when it brought up St. Peter’s Cross of it upside down, then one kid whispered that Catholics were devil worshipers. I did not say anything, just because we are not allowed to talk, and he got called on for talking after he said that.
 
People say all kinds of bad things about the Church. That doesn’t make what they say true. The Catholic Church isn’t evil, and being a Catholic doesn’t mean you’re headed straight to hell. It isn’t up to us to make such judgement calls. If Catholics did the same thing, then it would have to say that everyone who isn’t a Catholic is going to hell. It’s just a bunch of hot air.
 
How old are you and your classmates?

It boils down to this: Who are you going to believe? Your young and mischievous classmates who have a lot to gain by bullying and intimidating you, or Jesus Christ, who promised us that the Gates of Hell would never prevail against His Church?
 
When we are looking at hell and the devil, be sure to notice that the devil enjoys knocking down the Catholic Church. I wonder why…

Could it be that the true Church, practiced true and faithfully, might actually be strong medicine against evil?
 
Jesus established the One True Church. He did not established His Church in order for us to go to Hell. By His Church He has showed us the way to Heaven, the truth of Heaven and the eternal life in Heaven that awaits us if be believe and abide in what He says by the teachings of the Church that He established Himself…
 
I am 78 years old, and if I had 5 cents for every time someone told me to go to hell, I would be a very rich man today!
Seriously, you sound very young. Please realize that in life, people who are ignorant have the biggest mouths. Your best bet when others taunt you for your beliefs is to not show them it is upsetting you. Keep cool and report them for bullying. If it happens openly in class and it is tolerated by the teacher, see the teacher privately after class and lodge a complaint. If there is no public apology from the teacher or offending student, tell your parents and report the situation to the school principal.

I am very impressed that a student has the mature faithful initiative that you do to be a member in this Catholic forum. It really hurts when people say mean things especially
when they gang up on you.

Here’s what I would do: say the St. Michael The Archangel prayer sometime before going into your Spanish class. I do this whenever I think I’m going to be around a person or people who mock God in my presence.

👍 St. Michael the Archangel defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, by the power of God,:
Cast into Hell Satan, and all the evil Spirits, who prowl the world
Seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

This little prayer is real powerful. It wouldn’t be surprised if these kids stop talking this way completely. Sometimes even now I forget this and other prayers so I keep .my favorite prayercards in my wallet. Ask your preist for one the next time you see him.

Something funny- As a Catholic I never heard anything negative said about Protestants (those other Christians) in the mass, and hardly ever among other Catholics. And yet, many other Christian churches spend a lot of time insulting the Catholic church in the church and outside. So you have to decide who to believe and who is acting correctly.

You’re 78 and you’re advising a schoolboy to report other kids to the principle because they’re saying something offensive? I thought only the younger generations played by the “politically correct” rules.

This class is an elective so they can range from 14 to 18.

I guess I should have said this, but I do not believe what they said about it being “Satanic” because I know a lot more about Catholicism. I understand what it means, and I realize people can be rude. I just think it was wrong.
 
Also…

What happened about the hinting about Hell, what happened was I was telling “a friend” which we are barely friends now for many reasons, about this. She said that it was “wrong” because of things Catholics did differently than Protestants. So that is where she gave me that hint. I just ignored her and she kept talking about it, and I answered some questions, but that she changed the subject.

Then later on, we watched that movie. Those kids did not know about my, wanting to become Catholic, situation… they were just talking amongst themselves… not towards me. They were sitting by me (assigned seats) and that is how I heard it. They really are not bullies or bad kids, we have talked before… however they do make fun of movies. 🤷

If they start asking you questions, you can try saying any or both of these things to them:

“you don’t need to worry about me, I can take of myself. But I appreciate your concern, thankyou.”
or you could say,
“You say that because I’m winning.”

Anyway, the friends you speak of are definitely behaving silly. They doesn’t realise they are behaving silly,
because they are too young to understand.

Here is an important point. My friend, sometimes people with the strongest faith are picked on,
like yourself. This is because others don’t understand where such a gift comes from.
Because they don’t understand they become frustrated and don’t like you for it.

It is always best to hang around with friends who are good to you,
who don’t say and do bad things to you, and won’t get you into trouble.
Hang around people who accept you for having a great gift of having a strong faith.

Many people with great potential get lost and do not achieve their goals in life
because they are influenced by bad people who drag them down to their level.
Life is a learning process my friend, if you stay strong, the experience will
make you a better person.

Remember, Jesus was tempted in the desert three times by Satan, think of this as your test.
If Jesus, the son of God, was tested, it shows any man can be. The most important part in being tested is how you respond.

Do you remember the film, ‘Back to the Future’? If you haven’t seen it, try watching it, it is great fun.
There is a character called Biff. Biff and his friends think they are right and are bullies. These kids you
mention do sound a little bit like them 🙂 Anyway, once these kids (who behave silly and are wrong) become men,
the tables turn, and their behaviour doesn’t get them very far in life.

Smile my friend, you are winning in life, and that is why they say this to you.
 
At least some of these people are showing concern for your eternal welfare, according to their own understanding.

But even if you should suffer because of righteousness, blessed are you. Do not be afraid or terrified with fear of them, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be the will of God, than for doing evil. 1 Pet. 3:14-17

Is it so bad to allow someone to caution you to check your conscience? Is it so bad to give each one credit for doing his or her best according to what light each one has to see by? Might not this pluralistic society be a better place is we could plainly say what we each believe is the right path to righteousness, each one speaking freely and none rushing to take offense?

If you allow someone to question your beliefs without taking offense, giving your answer to their concerns gently and with respect, then you are in a position to ask them to examine their own. Is this such a bad thing? I don’t think it is. Rather, the contemporary prohibition against speaking about religious differences at all on the grounds that it is “shoving personal religion down the throats of others” makes evangelization something that no polite person feels they can do. It makes mutual understanding a difficult proposition, as well. Why don’t we instead let people say what they feel moved to say, without rushing to take offense except when offense was meant? Then we will have fair ground to speak our own faith, being believable that we mean no offense to those who do not see as we see, either.
 
Yes. Actually, the friend that I post about is really the same friend I talk about. I have many friends and they accept the fact of Catholic but she does not. The bad thing is that we are assigned seats in my science class and so we chose to sit with each other because we just did. So that is where and how it starts. We can still talk to each other, I just find it odd how she constantly brings it up to me and says things.
