Religions Are Not Comparable

“In the lively contemporary debate on the relation between Christianity and other religions, the path is open to consider that all religions are equally valid roads to salvation for their followers. This is a widespread conviction today not only in theological environments, but also in ever greater sectors of Catholic and non-Catholic public opinion, especially those most influenced by the cultural orientation that prevails in the West today, which can be defined, without the fear of contradiction, by one word: relativism,” the Cardinal clarified.

**However, if everything is relative, if all religions are comparable, the consequence is logical, the Cardinal stated: “Refusal to identify the historical figure of Jesus of Nazareth with the very reality of God, the living God.” **
This was written by Pope Benedict. I think this is something Catholics and Protestants can agree on. Many folk today deny the divinity of Christ and his sacrafice for us. There is no common interfaith denominator about who Jesus was or what he did. He either was the Christ or he was not. Other religions who deny Christ divinity try to make it all relative to claim we are connected. It is a lie.
Now we can all co-exist together peacefully whne using the golden rule so to speak. Christian, jew, Muslim, and hundu. the The bottom line is as Chrisitans Jesus is our Lord. We can not put that under the rug for the sake of “understanding”. As the old saying goes… “Good intentions can pave the way to hell”.

What say you Catholics, Protestants?

God bless,
Jon

Protestants and Catholics might agree but Muslims do not. They see Christ as a great prophet but not as the Son of God. That to a Muslim is blasphemy.

Yes. That is why I said “Christians” in the OP. 🙂

Muslims today view Jesus was an Infidel. Otherwise why would they persecute Eastern Christians and burn churches in the east?

I still don;t really understand how one could put Mohammed’s teachings above Jesus. Anyway.

I believe that relativism is what is going to finally separate the sheep from the goats no matter what denomination people follow. In many ways I feel closer to an Evangelical who does not believe in the Marian doctrines than I do to a wishy-washy Catholic who has let society, with it relativistic message form his/her conscience. At least with the Evangelical I can agree that God is who he says he is and that he has very definite rules we are expected to follow. C. S. Lewis talked about this in Mere Christianity. He would have been horrified to think that people would come to believe that relativism is the way to reconcile religious differences. That was not his message at all, but rather that we ought to love one another in our differences and try to come to understand the truth, always. And in that I heartily agree with him.

Human Dignity and respect will solve religious problems but as a Christian to sacrafice the belief in Christ’s divinity is not relative to solving anything.

God bless,
Jonfan

As Christ has promised to lead His church in truth always, we can thank Him for Pope Benedict and his good teaching on the errors of relativism rampant in the world today. May the Lord continue to bless our Pope with courage!
