Something disturbing in our bulletin

I’ve been reading our bulletins usually every week, and lately I’ve noticed that there are sermons copied in them and the source is carm.org

not sure if any of you are familiar with that site, but there is a large section devoted to anti-catholic material. I am not sure if the people putting the bulletins together realize that or not. There is nothing technically wrong with the sermons they are choosing, but if someone unsuspecting when and looked up that website, they mind find themselves very confused, especially if they were not the strongest in their faith.

should I say something? if so how? just talk to the secretary? or talk to the pastor? or should I leav it alone
 
Personal opinion from me is talk to the secretary. Perhaps carm copied the original material, perhaps the person copying the material is copying it from another site and is completely unaware that it’s also on carm.

There are plenty of approved liturgical help texts out there which are usually better than just Googling on a few words and copy/pasting (believe me I’ve dealt with plenty who think that the latter is the best way to find material, sigh), but if it’s a ‘person of power’ and things aren’t gonna change because they ‘know what they’re doing’, just ignore the bulletins and read something like the Imitation of Christ or some devotions (saints, Marian, Sacred Heart, etc) or say a rosary instead.
 
It is wildly inappropriate for a Catholic bulletin to link to a horrendous site like carm.

Carm is vehemently anti-Catholic, anti-intellectual, anti-science, and extreme right wing evangelical Protestant leaning.

I can’t help but think whoever linked to them in a Catholic bulletin did so out of either ignorance or misplaced charity or zeal.

Hugely inappropriate - I would print out some of the garbage from their site that directly attacks Catholic teaching, highlight it and show it to the Pastor.

I checked the site. There’s no doubt it’s anti-Catholic.

Let’s remember, though, that just because the site (and the organization behind it) is anti-Catholic, that doesn’t necessarily mean everything they write is going to be likewise.

Maybe if the OP can post a link to one or two of the specific sermons, so we can actually read one? I don’t want to look myself because then I wouldn’t be reading what was actually in the parish bulletin.

If a non-Catholic site contains a good sermon, there’s nothing wrong with repeating it; and honesty requires that the original author gets the credit.

Still, overall, linking to that site in a parish bulletin is problematic, especially if it’a a regular occurrence. Just like on CAF, someone might post “I read this article here and it was good, but I don’t recommend the rest of the site” a parish bulletin really should have some kind of disclaimer like that if they’re going to link to the site on a regular basis.

The pastor might not know about the site. It all depends on who does the bulletin. Maybe he’s been sick or on vacation, or for some other reason hasn’t been able to prepare something each week. That sort of thing happens. Or maybe someone who works on the bulletin just found a few articles that sounded good and decided to add them, but is unaware of the rest of the site.

I would certainly bring the issue to the attention of the pastor because the anti-Catholic rhetoric on it is quite obvious.
 
I wonder if the person who put this horrendous site in the bulletin is aware they have an entire section devoted to anti-Catholicism.

What an absolutely berserk, bizarre thing to do.

Angel.―I just took a quick look at that site and, at first glance, I would say it’s not merely non-Catholic, it is decidedly anti-Catholic. Here, for instance, is what the site says, under the heading “Verses Examined – NT,” about Matt 16:18, “upon this rock” –

It’s definitely a good source to study Protestant errors! Many of these same claims find their way onto these Forums.

I would suggest you tell your pastor that the material being pulled into your bulletin is from an anti-Catholic website.

Its probably not appropriate for a bulletin to link to CARM, however, you are being a little over the top here.

The owners of CARM offer arguments against a lot of Catholic teaching, but there really doesn’t seem to be hatred here, just an animated discussion with someone who you have sharp disagreements with. Not “hatred”.

I think if a priest or a nun were to cross the street in front of a CARM person’s car, the CARM folks would at least slow down and give them a fair chance.to get out of the way.

Hardly a real hate for people.

Reading your posr displays a SEVERE case of “word salad” - typical of people experiencing a psychotic break with reality.

I’m not trying to be mean or poke fun. I’m seriously worried you may be in the middle of a severe mental health crisis, which is a medical emergency.

Call 911 and read what you just wrote to them.

I just advised him to call 911.

He seems to be in the middle of a medical emergency - a psychotic break or maybe schizophrenic relapse.

If he calls 911 and reads what he just wrote, they will see he needs immediate medical attention.

Reading his post a third time trying to decypher that word salad, I think he’s implying he’s suicidal.
 
It said his religion was a non-existent Bible verse. If there’s one thing I know, it’s the Bible.
 
Adam, flag his post and tell the mods.

I’m almost certain he is saying hes about to commit suicide.

Maybe the mods can figure out where he is and alert local authorities. He seems to be in the midst of a mental health emergency.
 
Good idea, I have had a suicide in my family, so that’s honestly the last thing I want anyone to do.
