I’ll never I am going to understand to christians non-catholics.Our basic teachings come from the same Bible, and one of our Lord’s teachings is do not judge and you’ll never be judged. If they know this, why then they start practicing it.Now…idol worshippers? I don’t think so!!! We do venerate images that represents a living God,idolatry is to make a new god and worship it.Venerating images come from the Old Testament, for calling some, the bronze serpent on a pole(cross) or the carvings of little angels on the Arc of the Covenant. So please try to gie these examples to those guys, and I hope our Lord may give them a little bit of understanding.

That is why I do not take part in a non-denom or Protestant bible study because of filth like this.

Hi Stonewall;

This is my initial reaction …

Fight Fire with Fire. Tell him that it appears to you that it is protestants who are guilty of idolatry. Protestants lift two man-made doctrines above the Bible - Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide. They use those two man-made doctrines as a filter by which they twist the word of God contained in Scripture to divert people from the True Church founded by Christ on Peter - the Rock. After a fit of apoplexy, that hack of a bible-study leader may try to stammer out a response, but it will not be convincing because he’s probably used to “preaching to the choir.”

My apologies for a lack of charity, but I really do get tired of the catholic bashing that comes from these bible-only “christians.” My real advice to you is that you go to a reliable Catholic source and start learning all about the Catholic faith. Then, the next time someone fires off a baseless attack like “idolatry” you can respond charitably, but firmly in defense of the faith.

Peace,

Nathan,

Your parents have probably talked with this pastor. He probably said these things because of your situation.

And truly, you should be thankful that God has showed you what you will be up against. He is asking you to still choose Him regardless of the problems it will cause in your family, friends and current church.

It will not be easy, but God will provide you with the grace to get through this.

God Bless,
Maria

p.s. Have you put your needs on the prayer requests? I will pray, too.

Dear Stonewall,

The best way to defend against a charge of worshiping idols is to ask the person or persons accusing you to pray. Do this when they are holding thier bibles. Kneel down and pray. When you are done ask them if the bible is an idol? The answer is “of course it is not it is a device that focuses our mind and heart on God”. I have found this to be very effective. But be prepared the conversation will shift to other areas very quickly. Know the Catholic faith very well before you welcome these kinds of discussions. Three books to read are
  1. The Bible
  2. The Catichisim of the Catholic Church
  3. Chatholism v/s Fundalmentalism
Sorry about my spelling. I hope this helps.

Ask him what he believes, if it sounds like a liturgy, with no heart behind it, then tell him the basics of your belief (you know christ and Him Crucified)
Don’t get into Mary, Avoid all ploys to bring you into that, Just be at the credo level.
Remember nobody is perfect, what is a church made up of?
Imperfect people!
Every chuch has imperfections.
Be upset only if you’ve done something deliberately wrong against someone.
Otherwise, explain your beliefs, but remember, on the ground level.
Don’t let anyone upset you!
If God does, well then it’s a different matter!
See if you can get to the catholic bible studie first, it’ll probably help in the long run.
Jesus loves us, no matter what!
Love in Christ Tim

My heart goes out to you. I will pray for you. I can tell you that to the Catholic it is a grave sin to judge the state of another person’s soul. We are supposed to judge sin, but we are never to assume to judge whether another person is going to hell. We put our trust in the divine Mercy of Christ. Only God can judge souls. We are required to judge sinful behaviour and are called to help others in a state of sinful behavior and lead them from sin and to Christ, but NEVER tell them they are going to hell or claim that a particular person went to hell or is going to hell.

I have been Catholic all my life and went through a miserable time as a teenager going to a mostly anti-Catholic highschool. I didnt' know how to defend the Church very well, until I was an adult and discovered the Catechism and books on Apologetics. The Holy Spirit is calling **you** to Truth. You may need some time to study and learn, read the Catechism, Scripture, and as much information as you can at EWTN and Catholic Answers Radio website. You may not be comfortable with standing up against an entire congregation or prayer group. You must arm yourself with prayer, you are in a spiritual warfare. Just remember that you are being attacked because of Jesus, and His teachings. When Protestant Churches attack the Catholic Church it is out of fear. How frightening for a person to think that their religious beliefs could be wrong, that there is a Universal Church that Christ established to keep his teachings to the Apostles intact, especially if they have spent their whole life protesting the Catholic Church. They need to come up will all kinds of slandarous and horrible accusations to villanize the Catholic Church. They want to be able to decide for themselves what they want to believe. Fear and Pride are not from the Lord. Plainly put we are* not* idolators. I would rather die than commit idolatry.
The sad thing is, no matter what you say the attacks will keep coming. Pray with all you have, and if you feel called to verbally defend the Catholic Church do it, but don’t allow pride and hate enter your heart. It would take a strong person in your situation to stand up to defend the Church with verbal discussions. The most important thing you can do is guard your soul with constant prayer.

“…Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.” Luke 6.27 .

…“I say love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Matt 5:44

Let the Beatitudes guide you, through the frustration, especially:

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for riteousness, for they will be filled.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Read all the verses- Matt 5:1-12

You know these accusations are false, offer up your suffering to the Lord for the conversion of sinners,

Here is a prayer we use to offer up our sufferings to the Lord:
“Oh my Jesus, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy.”

I pray for you on your difficult journey. The Lord will bless you tenfold for what you must go through for Christ.

You will find that many miracles abound in the Catholic Church, while they are few and far between in other denominations. Why is that ?

Simply because Jesus and Mary supports the Church that remains most faithful to His teachings. Miracles about the Holy Eucharist, apparitions of Mary and Jesus and other saints to the faithful all happen to catholic lay folks and to Catholic clergy, rarely if ever to non Catholics.

God’s trying to tell you something about which Church is His. wc
Is anyone aware of any miracles such as apparitions to protestants?

I understand that you were upset. Since you know Catholics are Christians and they do not worship idols.
  1. Ask the guy to tell you exactly which idols Catholics worship!
  2. Ask him what is up in front of every Catholic Church ( it is Jesus on the cross!) Is that Christian?..YES!
  3. But it would do no good to ask these to the leader when he was up in front of “his” group. To confront him in public would make him fight back at you. Ask him alone.:tiphat:
Really bad advice. This young person is not yet equiped to handle the kind of attacks he will undergo there. My suggestion would be to go to a good Catholic Bible Study until such time as he is prepared to endure these attacks.

God Bless!

👍 Seriously, Iggy. This kid is WAAAYY outgunned and needs to keep his head down for now.

There is a whole lot of bad advice here. Claiming that non-denoms worship idols, or tricking him into praying with a Bible in his hand, or demanding an apology over hurt feelings will only fuel the other person’s fire.

You will never convince him that his position is indefensible. You must let him convince himself. Perhaps this might work: Say “I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that he was born of the virgin Mary, that he was crucified and rose from the dead in three days. I believe he was sent by the Father to do these things so that I might be saved.”

Then simply ask him: “Why do you think I am not saved?” No non-denom will add any requirements for salvation to what you just said.

Good for you, one thing you’ll find in the Catholic Church, is you never hear Priests attacking other faiths,at least that has been my experience in my 46 years a Catholic. May I suggest the Catechism of the Catholic Church, heres’ an online version.
