Something I liked about Mormonism

I have asked my wife to attend Catholic functions with me. It’s not going to happen anytime soon.

Do they not have any groups for Catholic men? Lots of parishes do.

As I recall the Pope that Jesus called while He was on earth was married.

Absolutely correct, and so were many more priests and bishops throughout the ages. However it is now a discipline, not a doctrine, of the Church that priests take a vow of celabacy and therefore cannot marry.

If God wants His Church to once again have married priests it will happen, but not until then.

Nice attempt at drawing fellow believers into an arguement. I have to wonder why.

Here is what I like about Mormonism:

They take faith formation seriously, and they have a great program. Not just for kids, but for adults also. They have it almost every Sunday of the year (there is no summer “vacation” from faith formation), and everyone is expected to go. It’s in the culture that faith formation is important–something we Catholics have lost in recent times. I personally believe the number one greatest problem within the Catholic Church today is our inexcusable lack of quality faith formation, especially for adults. Most Catholics stop learning about the faith after they are confirmed as teenagers, even they even made it that far, and thereby become easy pickens’ for other religions.

I would have to take exception to some of what you have said here.

I am in charge of our parish RCIA program, so this is a topic close to my heart.

Forcing someone to go to a faith formation class may work for some, but won’t work for many.

Our RCIA program for adults usually lasts 9-10 months, and provides the basic tools for the individual to keep growing in their faith. I might also mention that we have a 95% retention rate at 5 years, so we must be doing something right.

Not everyone is in the same place in their journey, and people progress differently, using different things to aid them. Some people will read everything they can get their hands on, and some will attend seminars, parish missions, etc.

Many parishes offer Bible studies, retreats, seminars and guest speakers. It is up to the individual to take care of their faith, and where they are on that journey.

One single approach won’t work for everyone.
