One does not have to believe in eternal security to believe that in Jesus of Nazareth the Debt of sin and death had been nailed to the cross and we bear it no more…the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul” is one of my absolute favorite hymns…
“My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!”
I love that inspired hymn of God’s astounding grace that our sin…not just part of it…but all of it has been nailed to his cross…in Galatians Paul declares that “For freedom did Christ set us free: stand fast therefore, and be not entangled again in a yoke of bondage.” We are cleansed totally from sin and it’s stain when we are forgiven…if a 'purgatory" exists, then it exists as a manifestation of the cross and it’s completed work…but God has completed a work in Christ…
