They broadcasted live last night from the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels our POPE JOHN PAUL II CANONIZATION CELEBRATION AND VIGIL. There was the Rosary, Music, Testimonies, and (at least the beginning of) Eucharistic Adoration. I went last night, and I’m glad I did. God’s presence was extremely palpable.

Did anyone else watch it last night? I DVR’d it. 🙂

I did stsrt to watch it, but it was late here on the east coast, and I have been sick with a bad cold. I ended up going to bed.

I stayed up to watch this & the following Cononization Mass from the Vatican. It was so worth it to do so. Simply beautiful.

Of course we had coverage by the BBC, really they should not have bothered, the ignorant remarks they made , not one of them was Catholic which was apparent by the silly remarks, I e-mailed the BBC telling them so, one said it was nonsense having relics, right out of medieval times they thought, and on and on the remarks went I then turned onto EWTN, BBC was one big YAWN. Thank God for E-mails they got a mouthful from me.

Yes, I watched some of the broadcast from our Cathedral too on EWTN, and I was happy to see it.

The event celebrated Pope John Paul II and his historic papal visit to Los Angeles in 1987, with music, prayer and testimonials.
It was sponsored by the Archdiocesan Office of the New Evangelization.

Some photos from last night, taken from the LA Cathedral’s facebook page:

Thanks for the photos. I don’t like the style of that cathedral.

I really tried to watch, but it was very windy knocking my satellite out. Will the canonization from Rome be re-broadcast?

Wathching EWTN in the past week or so, I have seen many programmes on St JPII the second but none on John XXIII who began Vatican II. Is EWTN that biased toward the right? Perhaps there were just that many progammes on John XXIII?

Personally I do not think that Vatican II was a bad thing or mistake. Only the misreading of it. 🙂

This I cannot understand. Which side is saying the Missal of John XXIII?

Very nice. Thanks for the tip. It can be viewed in its entirety at youtube.com/watch?v=USY9q8VN13c

I know that many detest this edifice (mostly people who have never attended a liturgy there) and it’s certainly not my favorite from a design standpoint. However it is a superb place to take part in the Mass and other holy liturgies.

In some ways it’s like a Holywood sound stage for the celebration of the Mass. Its acoustics, thundering and beautiful pipe organ, audio system, lighting, awesome view of the altar, baptistery and the way in which it facilitates processions do the celebration of the Mass great justice.

It’s nice to see that healing has taken place between the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and EWTN. Fr. Ed was the perfect person to lead this celebration.

Sorry, I messed up my post. I was commenting on the wealth of programs on EWTN about St John Paul the second and the relative lack of shows about St John the XXIII and pondering why.

But then I thought there are not many shows about St John the twenty third.

Ceremonies like these make me feel truly closer to God and very universal in the Church.

This is true. Maybe because he wasn’t Pope for very long and I can’t remember his travelling outside of Italy. People don’t remember him for more than his smiles.

I agree with all of this.

In terms of papacies. JPii was extra-ordinary in it’s length, and all that he wrote (19 ? encyclicals? something like that)…

And I believe in was Paul VI who really took the papacy outside the Vatican walls to a much larger extent?

If one takes a step back, most would conclude, because of it’s length, JPii just had time to do a great deal, thus leave with a great deal of material for us to go thru…Not to mention, the difference in media culture between the two
