The Orthodox have much nicer vestments than us, why? I mean it’s not the design, it’s the ornamentation…

It’s personal preference. Some people would see overly-ordained vestments as too flashy and not modest enough. In the end it is personal preference for styles.

Why? Well, my opinion is that they are much better at not forgetting their traditions and the dignity of priesthood and the solemnity of the Eucharistic sacrifice. I don’t know, I think it might have something to do with the rotting perception of the world in the West and the influence of protestantism (many just don’t believe in externals). You will see that it’s even the Eastern Catholics who have much nicer vestments. I think that many people have already realized it that the Western Catholicism and that things will be getting (slowly) better. At least the beauty of vestments has nothing to do with the Truth because otherwise we would all need to convert to one of those “cool” pagan sects.

As a general rule, I prefer elegant simplicity.

However, I saw a beautiful red brocade (alas, no longer made) that I would wear in half a heartbeat.

Oh man you are so right, and their churches, to die for. I guess the general answer is more emphasis on preserving liturgical tradition in the Eastern churches in general.

its the false ecumenism that has gotten out of hand and snowballed since the late 60s…our priests have been vesting like protestants for decades now…we wouldn’t want to offend them for being too…um…Catholic…now would we?
