Congratulations on your confirmation. I, too, became Catholic as an adult. I became Catholic when my oldest started CCD. I wanted to know what I was protesting about so I attended RCIA. After listening to Scott Hann and learning about the Catholic faith was confirmed in 1995. My prayers are with you on your daughter. Have you tried to enroll her in RCIA? It might be the best option, because of her age.

I might suggest RCIA to her. She knows nothing of Christianity. I sheltered her from it like it was the devil himself.

If your daughter is like mine, suggesting won’t work. Find out the times RCIA starts. Talk to the person in charge of RCIA and ask if she can join for a few sessions. There should be a new group soon. Attend with her. Take her along. Tell her she can ask any questions she likes.

If she won’t go, draw a line of chalk on the sidewalk about 5 inches in length. Tell her that this her life up until now. Draw another line continuing it farther for about foot or so. Here is a line that represents your future until age, oh say, 109. Next draw a line continuing down the sidewalk until you get to the curb. Tell her this is how long you will be in heaven, but it doesn’t stop there. This line will continue all the way to the ocean. Then if you followed it you would take the chalk and throw it into the ocean.

Thanks. I like the chalk-line analogy. I’ll have to try that one out on her.

I still go to RCIA every week. I invite her to RCIA and to Mass. She did go to Easter Vigil last Saturday.
