My 14 y old son told us last month that he is gay. We are disappointed. We went to see our priest and he offered some insight. This particular priest heads “Courage”, gay and family members of gay catholics. We haven’t heard back. He suggested that we continue to love him, be gentle with him especially how we talk to him and monitor him, friends and the Internet. Yesterday we noticed he’s been at gay porn sites. We’ve talked to him. He’s going to confession this weekend. I’m praying for him. I’ve always asked God to call him to be a priest. Is that still possible? As a parent, now what? Suggestions. We can’t do this alone and I don’t want him to get lost

Dear friend,

Keep him and yourselves in touch with the Courage priest. It is essential that your son keep the Lord in the loop. If he is centered on God, he will see things very differently than our culture does—AND he will be at peace. The following link is to a question I answered for a young man in your son’s position. Your family is in our prayers.
