I just got done seeing it, and I thought it was pretty good. You can definitely tell it was originally a made for T.V. Mini-series, but I don’t think it detracted from the way the story was told. There were several parts that I found very moving, and I teared up at the portrayal of our Lords passion. I also like the way the Eucharist was portrayed at it’s establishment at the last supper. There were some surprising omissions though. With Lent being so near, I was looking for the time Jesus was in the desert and was tempted, but it was omitted. In addition to that there was some extra-biblical storytelling going on for dramatic effect. I don’t think this film will persuade any one to convert but it may inspire some to dust off their Bibles and take a look inside for the first time in a while.

Sorry to be so long winded!

Is there anything new or is it just the Jesus parts of the history channel’s The Bible?

In terms of converting a good number of people, The Passion of the Christ might still be on the top of the list. 😃 I heard one priest tell that because of that movie, some criminals turned themselves in.

One thing I like in this movie (at least from the trailer… i haven’t watched it) is that it also covers Jesus’ life before the passion.

I liked the symbols and figurative images used in The Passion. Does this movie have them too?

I’m also wondering if there’s anything new or added to the movie that wasn’t in the tv series last year… anyone have a clue? Thanks.

I haven’t seen the movie but it certainly looks good! But I think it’s important to know that the producer (Mark Burnett) is an evangelical.

That good to know I wonder if movie is impacted by protestant views of authors and producers

I have not seen it, but our (very orthodox) priest strongly recommended it to us after Mass today, which I would consider a good sign. 🙂

I’ve seen it yesterday, good one, can’t complain. I recommend review here It says that though “Son of God” is thankfully not theologically offensive, artistically it falls short of a revelation. I agree, I would say theologically it is even very good As mention in the article “Failing to convince his fellow apostles that Jesus has indeed returned, Peter calls for bread and wine and offers them all communion. It’s only after they’ve partaken that Jesus appears amongst them. It’s almost as if the movie is saying that if you want to see Jesus in the flesh, then take this, all of you, and eat of it. It’s a pretty amazing Catholic moment to see onscreen, one made all the more astounding by the fact that it was put there by Protestants.” end of quote… I liked it !
