Song of Songs

Hi all, I’m in a discussion about birth control. I believe it’s bad, he thinks it’s ok. I said something like, “when you use birth control you take God out of the equasion just so you get the pleasures of sex without the ‘consequences.’” To say that having sex solely for pleasure is ok because the book Song of Songs is completely dedicated to the matter. I’ve read that this book is supposed to be showing the relationship of Christ and His Church somehow. I’m not sure how but that’s just what I read somewhere. What do I say to this person?

Yes, there is a level of meaning in the Song of Songs referring to Christ and His Bride, the Church. That does not mean that the book is not also a reflection on the beauty of married sexual love. Yes, sex is pleasurable, but would anyone who has read the Song of Songs think that that couple would do anything to “hold back” from each other, which is what birth control is all about!

Traditionally , there is a believe that Solomon is the author of the book.
The Song of Solomon is best described as love poetry. Because of its explicitly erotic character , ancient Jews and Christians alike rejected its literal interpretation and allegorized it.
by the early Church , the book was seen as the relationship between Christ and His bride - the Church.
The early Christian inability to deal with this book at the literal level was influenced more by the Greek philosophy of the time than by the Bible itself .
There is a question ,
If , as seems justified by the text , we take Song of Solomon as the words of couple anticipating an imminent wedding , then does it mean it is the argument against marital asceticism ?
Should it mean that sex ( in the marriage of course ) is not bad by itself . Right ?
God intended married couples to enjoy the sexual pleasure when it expresses the love between them.
There are modern Christian hymns , which should be known to all English speaking Christians , such as ‘’ Jesus Rose of Sharon ‘’ and ‘’ I have Found a Friend in Jesus ‘’ , they are the type of interpretation

The Song of Songs is not about sexual pleasure, is not explicitly erotic, and does not mention the marital act in any explicit way.

On the historical (literal level) of meaning, it is about the marriage of Solomon to a bride from Africa.

On the spiritual level of meaning, it is about the marriage of Christ to His Bride the Church.

In a word, the Song of Songs is address the inner person’s relationship with God!

Concerning birth control, does it involve conception of a human. Then the death of a human?

Also, the laws of morality or ontologically real.

For myself, I call it the pinocchio principle.
