Any suggestions?

I’m making one of those slideshow DVDs for all my college girlfriends (we graduated 2 yrs ago), and am hoping to have it done in time for one of their weddings, when we’ll be together again in a couple months. Anyway, I’m trying to figure out songs…we didn’t really have many that were inside jokes or connected us in any way, and those that we did don’t really fit with the slideshow…

So, what are good friend/girlfriend/possibly girlpower kind of songs?

I know Michael W. Smith’s “Friends” and Vitamin Cs “Friends Forever” or whatever it’s called. I was thinking oldies. A bunch of them loved 80’s songs- but the only ones I can think of aren’t terribly appropriate 😛 .

😃

This is a newer song, but lyrically very appropriate, Green Day’s “Time of Your Life”.

**Time of Your Life by Green Day

**Another turning point;
a fork stuck in the road.

Time grabs you by the wrist;
directs you where to go.

So make the best of this test
and don’t ask why.

It’s not a question
but a lesson learned in time.

It’s something unpredictable
but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

So take the photographs
and still frames in your mind.

Hang it on a shelf
In good health and good time.

Tattoos of memories
and dead skin on trial.

For what it’s worth,
it was worth all the while.

It’s something unpredictable
but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

It’s something unpredictable
but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

It’s something unpredictable
but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

Well, I don’t know if this is appropriate, but this one fits my husband and his best bud since they were in high school. It’s by Tracy Lawrence (with a little help from Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw) and it’s called “Find Out Who Your Friends Are”. The chorus goes:

You find out who your friends are
Someone who’s gonna drop everything
Run out and crank up their car
Hit the gas
Get there fast
Never stop to think, What’s in it for me?
Or, it’s way too far
They just show on up
With their big ol’ hearts
You find out who your friends are

But '80s? Come on, how 'bout the ultimate '80s girl anthem, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”? Or the theme from “Cheers”?

There’s Martina McBride’s “This One’s For The Girls”, or Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family”.

I’ll keep thinking!

Thanks so much for the suggestions! Some of those songs, I was thinking “Oh yeah!” but couldn’t remember them before :).

What about Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend”? Slow, but nice. I keep thinking of Heart, but I can’t think of one of their songs that would fit; they just always strike me as girl power fun. And let’s not forget the Spice Girls! I used to like Brandy back in the 90s and she had a song called “Best Friend.”

Oh and non-friend songs, but more on the cusp of growing up and “moving on” are “Don’t Stop” Fleetwood Mac and “Solsbury Hill” Peter Gabriel. Both are sort of classic memory joggers for some reason. And mellow enough to not detract from the slides.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge

Queen’s “You’re my Best Friend”

There was a CCM song back in the 80’s called “Jonathan” - I wish I could remember who did it…

And you might find some scriptures about friends too, to put in the slide show.

Phil Keaggy’s “Circle of Friends” (from Crimson & Blue) is my absolute favorite.
