Songs for mass?

Who chooses songs for mass. Are the same everytime like in orthodoxy?or are they different, or do theu only change for church functions outside of the liturgy
 
I have gone to masses at all of the nearby churches, even on the same day (daughter was sick so I took her to late mass when she was feeling better). Some parishes play Protestant songs, others traditional Catholic, and some play Latin songs. In our parish, the pastor works with the music director to give direction (our pastor forbids Protestant songs and prefers Latin).

So, to answer your question, no, music varies parish to parish. The music director is in charge, and whether the pastor gets involved in decisions is up to the pastor.
 
In most parishes in the US, there is a music director who chooses the songs, with varying levels of involvement from the priest. The text of the psalm and ordinary of the Mass ought to be the same at each parish Also, on a couple of days there are other specific texts to be used (sequences). Unfortunately, not all music directors know or feel compelled to follow those rules, however, most do. There are also rules regarding the choosing of texts of the hymns for the other different parts of the Mass, but generally, a lot of liberty is taken with the these hymns.
 
Churches in my area pretty much follow the suggestions in the OCP liturgy guides, which of course emphasize OCP’s own copyrighted songs, rather than the Church’s own sacred music.
 
At choir practice we look at the readings for the following Sunday or holyday of obligation and either follow what is recommended in the hymnal or choose our own. The hymns must be in context with the particular Mass for the day.
 
My parish’s music is picked by the liturgical director, and he usually picks a mixture of traditional hymns, Gather songs, and chant. On important holy days, the songs are almost all chant, which everyone but me hates. 🤷
