Songs with sexual reference

A lot of the music I listen to has sexual reference in it… is that OK? I don’t let myself be influenced by the music at all but I’ve heard some say just listening to it is wrong.
 
You should try to avoid it, but sometimes it’s not possible to avoid if it it comes on a mostly-clean radio station. Other times, you can avoid it and it takes a period of transition to slowly get off of it. If it becomes too much of a problem, you can alway change the station and put it back on when the song is over.
 
Listen to better music XD. While a venial sin, it would best to avoid it. I remember I used to love Lady Gaga and Rihanna. Now I’m barely even tolerating them anymore. You what’s really good music? Broadway musicals. I know, I know, it sounds kind of…fancy, but a lot of the music is witty, funny, and best of all: classy beyond all comprehension.

Now, I seem to be getting off topic. Just find a better substitute for your music and find some jazz or something. I don’t recommend smooth jazz, though. that would put me to sleep when i’m driving.

It’s not Lady Gaga or any of the 2000’s pop artists… I don’t like them at all. It’s more Indie music, lol, but I’m sure that doesn’t make it right.

Also, I tend not to listen to songs about sex, but some of the songs I have have one-liners on the issue.

While I’m not advocating for the music, why would it be a venial sin? If you were listening to it because of the sexual references and to bring out illicit thoughts/actions then it’s probably a different story. However, if you like the beat and the overall song and the sexual references come along with it then isn’t it more of a material vs. formal cooperation type of thing?

For me personally, I get offended by songs that use the Lord’s name in vain. I make a conscious decision when I can to not listen to those songs, but I don’t know if it would be sinful if I continued to listen to the music anyway as I actually do like the beat of some songs I listen to and it’s typically a one-liner or a refrain that’s a minor part of the song or something similar. Sometimes I do keep listening (mostly when someone else I’m with like my spouse enjoys the song) and try to ignore the reference. (Full disclosure: Sometimes ignoring the reference actually gets it stuck in my head and I mentally say the lyric I’m trying to ignore or repeat it in my head at another time which is generally why I try to not listen to the song at all).

I’m far from an expert though and can definitely be wrong. Just my :twocents:
 
And most definitely stay away from this groups music. You really would get an ear full…😉
 
Yeah, there’s this song called “Back Door Man”, best version is by Howlin’ Wolf (originally I think it is by Willie Dixon). I think it has something to do with sex. But it’s a pretty good song anyway. I like the line about pork and beans, I try not to think about what else it might be about.
 
I wish their was a way to blot out the singing in pop music so I could feel fine listening to them… Plus the singers aren’t good at all…

But, since that won’t happen soon, I want to know if a song with sexual references is okay to listen to as long as it’s for the beat and the sexual undertone is subtle (as in it’d be hard to find unless listen carefully). So is it?

Try listening to a country music station… you won’t find much music there that couldn’t be played in front of God or your mother.
