Hello Everyone, hope all is well :), I have a question regarding the sorrow and temptation I am dealing with. I am 16 years old and have been dealing with sins of impurity for a while now, I have gone back to confession EVERY week and committ the same sins and have to go back, but this week has been different, I have committed these sins about 6 times!!! I am scared because I have lost my sorrow that comes with committing these sins, I want to go to Heaven, I hate sin, and I hate Hell, but when this sin comes up I don’t even hesitate, can an act of perfect contrition be made (or attempted) and if not, will I be forgiven in confession for them with my current state of being not sorrowful? I am very passionate and want to beat this sin, but It’s getting easier to fall into, which is scaring me, Thanks

Confess it. It sounds like you still have contrition and so I don’t see any hurdle in the priest absolving you.

Thank you, I’m just scared because I’ve done it so many times, and he may think I dont care, plus (per every week) this sin will probably be committed again 😦

You may need to change the company you keep and the entertainment you view/hear. It will make it easier to avoid temptation if you aren’t exposed to the attitude that sin is “normal”. Think about that please.

Sorrow can be just from knowing it was wrong
It’s an act of the will
Your feelings don’t always follow suit but I’m pretty sure they don’t have to
I’m not certain but I made a thread similar to this and I think I got an answer similar to what I just gave

I understand completely and hate this sin, and I will be praying and trying my hardest from this day forward, these sins of impurity are by no means easy to defeat, but with God and my own hard work, I will be more successfull than without, thank you

It seems you are quite sorrowful in your intellect. That is sufficient sorrow. A perfect contrition should involve wanting to go to confession when possible.

Make strong your Marian devotion and watch what entertainment you consume and friends you hang out with. Try to think of Christ often, in the back of your mind.
Pray for grace at the very beginning of temptation.
Be honest to yourself. Ask yourself and answer why you keep doing whatever sins you are doing. Then, make a strong decision to never do them again, praying to God.

Thank you! And I have a bit of scrupulosity when it comes to sin, I am getting better at it though

I find scrupulosity can be helped by having a solid intellectual grasp on what is and isn’t sinful and why. God bless.

It sounds as though Paul struggled similarly in Romans 7:15-19. Don’t give up.

“15 For I do things that I do not understand. For I do not do the good that I want to do. But the evil that I hate is what I do.
16 So, when I do what I do not want to do, I am in agreement with the law, that the law is good.
17 But I am then acting not according to the law, but according to the sin which lives within me.
18 For I know that what is good does not live within me, that is, within my flesh. For the willingness to do good lies close to me, but the carrying out of that good, I cannot reach.
19 For I do not do the good that I want to do. But instead, I do the evil that I do not want to do.
20 Now if I do what I am not willing to do, it is no longer I who am doing it, but the sin which lives within me.”

"The problem is that we ourselves tire, we do not want to ask, we grow weary of asking for forgiveness. He never tires of forgiving, but at times we get tired of asking for forgiveness.

Let us never tire, let us never tire! He is the loving Father who always pardons, who has that heart of mercy for us all. And let us too learn to be merciful to everyone. Let us invoke the intercession of Our Lady who held in her arms the Mercy of God made man.

Pope Francis, Angelus, [March 17, 2013]

You might want to remove any personally identifying info from your profile. It’s just not a good idea to put your name out there permanently associated with personal stuff.

If a child comes to their parents full of sorrow for their wrongdoing, they lovingly forgive them.
If instead that child is not sad but determined to change and do better and explaining their plan to do better, a parent lovingly forgives them and is proud of their drive and determination. The lack of sorrow doesn’t remove from it.

Our Heavenly Father is the same way. Don’t let your lack of sorrow keep you from confession.

One way to incite sorrow is to realize that God made us for Himself, and sin offends God because it separates us from Him. He loves you no matter what. All the pain Jesus suffered in His passion was because of our sins; He loves us so much He died for us so that we can be with Him. Thus when He was crowned with thorns and mocked He made reparation for all the sins of pride and evil thoughts; His sacred hands were pierced in reparation for all the evil deeds we do with our hands; His feet pierced in reparation for all the evil paths we walk; His entire body scourged in reparation for all the sins of the flesh; His sacred heart pierced in reparation for all the hatred in the world. He made reparation for all the sins past, present and future. So the key is to stop sinning out of love for God; out of fear of offending and losing God, who is Our Father who loves us. It is so incredible to realize that God is Our Father! So the more you know Jesus, the more you will love Him and want to never offend Him. Read the New Testament, and when you pray the Rosary imagine yourself in each scene as if you were one of the people there, tha way you will

Keep struggling; you may lose some battles but aim to conquer yourself and winning the war with God’s grace. Here is a video that will help you love Jesus more and not want to offend Him:

Unfortunately, I do not know the source of this; I heard it on EWTN radio without even knowing which show it was, but the person speaking said she asks herself, “Who is it that wants me to go in this direction? God or Satan?”

I have found that amazingly helpful in a lot of different circumstances.

ETA: and I have gone through periods when praying only the Sorrowful Mysteries, contemplating Christ’s gift to me, was very helpful in restoring my spiritual balance.

Sin is voluntary. It may take time to break a habit which is slavery to sin. The will should oppose the habit and the near and voluntary occasions should be avoided.
