I once heard a prominent Priest compare the situation in the Church since Vatican II to the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary. The Church as the Body of Christ being delivered into the hands of it’s enemies to be whipped, crowned with thorns, mocked and scorned, and finally being led down the via dolorosa to be crucified. Last week, while meditating on these mysteries I wondered how much more the Church would have to endure before it was liberated from the madness, the confusion, and the division since Vatican II. Then a thought occured to me, which I filed in the back of my head, and continued my recitation of the Rosary. The Sorrowful Mysteries are composed of five “decades” (i.e. 50 years). This past weekend after celebrating the withdrawal of the “excommunications” of the four SSPX bishops I ran across many secular and Catholic news stories marking this past weekend as the 50th anniversary of John XXIII calling Vatican II. Co-incidence? Let us double our efforts and pray to Our Lord and his Mother that the 50 years will be the period of peace promised by Our Lady (i.e. The Glorious Mysteries)!

Viva Cristo Rey!

Ooh. I have heard talk of the forty-some years since Vatican II being referred to as a liturgical desert of sorts, in reference to Exodus, but this metaphor is much more interesting. I don’t know if there’s anything to it, but it sure is neat to think about.

Lets continue our prayers for unity in the Church. Keep the hope and remember that after the Sorrowful mysteries come the Glorious, amazing times are ahead.
