Sorry if this sounds silly but if my intention hasn't been granted after 27 days of 54 day novena

…Is it over? Does that mean it won’t be granted? What is the traditional view of this?

Well, it goes without saying that you’re supposed to finish the Novena first. Nevertheless, a Novena is not magical. The words of Jesus come to mind here, “yet not my will, but yours be done".

As with all Prayer, it is in God’s hands and He knows what’s best for us.

I once did a 54 day rosary novena for a specific intention…by the end of the 54 day my wish was not granted and it never was granted…back then i was soo desperate for it but now I am so glad that it was not granted…the wish was for me and my ex to be together again…he lived far away…looking back on it now mama did not grant the wish bc she knew we were never meant to be…and oh boy is she right

Sometimes i think She and Jesus sees the bigger picture. You may think you really want something and pray devoutly but she never grants the wish bc she knows you will regret it later etc…

I once did a 9 day novena to st. Joseph for a desperate cause…it was for work and yes i was in desperation and needed an answer real fast…i prayed for 9 mornings before work and it wasnt granted on the 9th day but it was soon granted.

I’m on 37 and waiting. Hopefully mine will come soon, I want to start another one for my wife after this.

First of all, when you pray for any request or favor or intention, the timing of the response is up to God. He does not automatically grant a favor after you’ve completed a certain number of Rosaries. He might say No to the favor if he thinks it is ultimately not good for you or otherwise not His will.

Second of all, even the originator of the 54-day Novena did not get her response from God until after the whole 54 day novena was completed. I’m not saying that God is always going to answer at the end because God could answer on day 2 or 10 years from now or whatever day he wanted to, but just pointing out that we don’t wait for the favor to happen on day 27 before we start the thanksgiving part. We give thanks for Our Lady’s intercession, in advance if necessary, knowing we will receive what is best for us and what is God’s will.

It’s a bit superstitious to expect an answer on a certain day…The important thing is to pray.

God knows the heart. If it is his will, he will grant you what you ask. If not, and your reaction will be to be disappointed, to lose faith, to be full of doubts, to distance from him, etc. then He always knew. In all things, humility.

We must remember that God is not a vending machine. We don’t put prayers in, expecting wishes granted. Regardless of how important as those wishes may seem.

Novenas are not about “granting” things, novena is a prayer. God answers every prayer, sometimes the answer is “no”.

Do not let superstition sneak into your prayer life. “Thy will be done” is part of every prayer.

Why bother praying if He is going to say no anyway? Wouldn’t it be better if He told you at the start? You just end up feeling worse than you did before. My whole world is falling apart, I’ve prayed and fasted more than ever and it just gets worse every day.

Come on… that’s temptation speaking, fight it off, don’t despair!

Our Lady won’t leave you, She is allways besides you, and even if your prayers are not answered in the way you want you can be sure they are being heard! I will join your prayer right now, what are you praying for?

It’s true though, why does He allow us to continually pray for something when He has no intention of granting it or maybe we are raying wrongly but if He doesn’t inform us we continue to pray wrongly.

I would rather not pray than just have them heard. I have prayed to Mary also very much but nothing.

Yes. The 54 day novena is not a “magic come true you get everything you pray for as long as you pray it for 54 days straight in the correct order” Because then that would be like i dunno praying to win the mega jack lotto and then being angry that Mary didnt grant you the wish lol.

Are you a parent? Did you grow up with loving parents?

Did they say yes to everything you asked for or did they say no sometimes?

I’m not asking God for toys or biscuits although if my parents said no they would say why, they wouldn’t watch my world go up in flames and remain silent.

DO not become distressed if you do not receive at once from God [your] request; he wishes to benefit you even more as you continue steadfastly in prayer (Rom 12:12). For what is higher than [enjoying] conversation with God and being taken up [lit distracted ] with [conversation] with him?

I don’t know who said it, but prayer is not asking for what you want, it is asking to be transformed in ways you can’t imagine.

Maybe, if God isn’t giving you what you want, it’s because he knows it is not what you really need and you need to re-evaluate what you are praying for.

Well, maybe what you are praying for would require God to take away someone’s free will and he can’t do that. When things do not go our way it is always man’s fault, not Gods.

I dont mean to sound flippant but what do you expect God to do? Audibly tell you to cease prayer? Show Himself to you and tell you to stop? Send someone to tell you then you have doubts as to wether the message really is from God or not?

Im sorry you are going through a rough time. Everyone does in one way or another in life. Sometimes God lets life happen for our benefit in the long run. Even bouts of intense physical pain can be good for us spiritually because I sure pray more when I am suffering and feel closer to God.

I hope your situation gets better. Prayers

If it is a question of free will, what happened to St. Augustine’s free will when St. Monica constantly prayed for him?
