I haven’t yet, partly because I need to pay for something else first before I can join. I’m still a little nervous about looking for love in the pseudo world, but I’m willing to join AMS or CatholicMatch, even if I don’t meet someone romantically, it would be nice to have a few Catholic friends. Besides, there’s no way that I’m going to meet someone in the next seven months.
Good luck! I am sure you will do well.

Please don’t make the same mistake I did (with someone here on CAF) and get impatient to move to phone calls. I lost a good friend that way.

I’m a very cautious person, so I don’t see that happening, but I’ll keep that in mind.

Eliza, why am I not surprised you’ve also read A Man Called Peter and A Severe Mercy?

😃

Great books. I read A Severe Mercy in high school. I was always a strange kid.

I’m a true sucker for soulmates. Personally, I believe I’ve found mine. Yes, I’m young, but there’s no limit on the age you can find yours, is there?

I also believe that there are different kinds of soulmates. In marriage, it’s obviously your husband, but it can be friends, or even a complete stranger that only comes into your life for a brief moment. Your fellow soul mate is your “other half,” whether or not you’re aware of it at the time. You can share the deepest part of yourself with them, and find a ready and willing friend that understands what you’re talking about. They make your head spin. They’re just your other half.

Another favorite love story of soul mates, a marriage cut short by death but so rich in love it seemed long, is Catherine Marshall’s A Man Called Peter. That one is from the woman’s perspective, but, like the above, it is a well-loved book by many. Both books are often named people’s “favorties”.

So I think you might love these stories, too.

I see they turned this beloved favorite into a movie! I really want to see this:

Wow. My grandma had this book on her shelf for as long as I could remember. I never knew what it was about. My grandmother was widowed after about 22 years of marriage. Maybe it struck a cord with her.

Yes, I suppose one can never be too cautious, especially as a woman.

Soul mate, or no, there is always the possibility of bad behavior.
Yeah, especially on the internet. There’s always the possibility that someone can simply be lying.

There’s always the possibility that someone can be lying in person too. That’s why it is a good idea to not jump into anything, and spend the time to really talk and get to know someone. Even online, you can get a real feel for someone. In some ways talking to someone online affords you the space to be a little bit more objective, and I think you might have more of an opportunity to find out about their thoughts and their values without being distracted by the externals.

Good point.

Another good thing about talking online, especially where there are large geographical distances separating you, is that you can get a real sense of whether the man is willing to pursue you. He could use geography as an excuse for not pursuing, but, in fact, he might be the kind of person who would not even pursue a woman who lives right across the street from him. He’d rather just hang out. (I’ve never figured this type of guy out, but I’ve encountered several of them).

Does your soulmate live 3,000 miles away? You will only find out if you spend some time chatting with him and see if he is willing to make the next move.

This very much pertains to my DH and I as we met on the internet and lived 250 miles away from each other on the separate sides of Ohio. He would drive all the way to come see me every 2 weeks and stay for a couple days and go back…all while going to school and working full time!!! He made time to come see me (my mom wouldn’t let me drive alone that far away…I was still living at home at the time) and took the extra sacrifice. There were times he wouldn’t leave till very late at night and drove all that way at night, being exhausted, and having to get up the next day to go to school and work, etc…that’s how I knew I found my soul mate 👍

I voted no as we make descions of our will.

My present soulmate is my dh also but I have met many people, men and women, with whom I just click.

We put up many defenses and when the wall starts to come down, you get a friend and possible soulmate. Unfortunately changes happen and I lose touch with them and then my immediate relationship with my dh has to take over.

I don’t think soulmates are closer than marriage, unless the partner is emotionally detached.
