I feel mentally still attached to someone I should I have well moved on from. I still think of him everyday thoroughout the course of my day. It is like background noise. I honestly feel very pathetic being still very attached to a man who I know I don’t love, doesn’t even like me, or care about me any longer, etc. I let him use me for sex. I have prayed about it sincerely a few times. It has lessened over the months. It was a four to five month affair. It is almost a year I still feel attached to someone who isn’t worth my time, energy or brain space.
How can I remove a soul tie caused by fornication?
Is this something I’ll have to pray about every day to find peace?
It is an odd unhealthy attachment. If I saw him in person, I would shy away. It is odd I let such a measly man mean so much to me.

There is no such thing as a soul tie. Period.

It’s possible to feel such an attachment to someone you have never had sex with. Hormones in the brain cause stronger bonds to form; it’s rooted in biology not the supernatural.

The advice I would give is to try and distract yourself from the lovesickness. Meet friends, take up hobbies, volunteer, surround yourself with people who do care for you, find exercise that you enjoy. Don’t fight how you feel, it’s totally natural and not wrong. Just don’t wallow in it. Though telling yourself that he is no good and that you are better off now than you were together is a good idea, which you seem to be doing already 🙂

why don’t you believe in soul ties?

They don’t exist. I’ve never heard anyone say that sex causes any sort of soul tie. The church had no teachings on such ties. In fact, marriage doesn’t even cause a soul tie, since the bond is dissolved upon the death of one party.

You are infatuated with a man. Everyone gets infatuations and mostly they are with people that one has never had sex with. However, sex can, for some people, cause a deeper bond that is harder to shake. But it’s all biology and chemistry.

Why do you believe in them?

There is no such thing as a “soul tie”.

But certainly there is such a thing as emotional attachment, regret, residual feelings, etc.

So, that is where the old adage “time heals all wounds” comes in. It is difficult to accept in the moment, but entirely true. The passage of time help heal hurts.

Keep praying, keep moving on.

Years ago the independent Protestant church my parents attended for a while taught that one’s first sexual partner was one’s true spouse. That preacher had a few other odd ideas, too, which is why my parents didn’t stay at that church.

That is the only time I’ve ever heard of such a thing.

No such thing. People who talk about such are trying to create a bond where there is none.
Don’t fall for it. It will not profit you one bit. It will only cause confusion and grief.

I thought a soul tie was the same as infatuation. It is a little interesting how sex can cause infatuation for some. I never get infatuated with men I simply like. I didn’t think infatuation could last this long. I know I don’t love him or even truly like him. There is no real bond just unhealthy attachment.

I always thought soul ties where ties caused by the devil for fornicating. You know how God says two become one. I thought you had a soul tie because you violated God’s law.

There is no such thing. There is not just one person in the world made for us. If that were so, someone with a spouse that dies would never be able to find another person to love. And that happens to lots of people.

Pining for a “soul tie” sounds more like loneliness. If you met someone else, you would quickly forget the other.

Soul tie sounds better than saying you are another girl obsessed and pathetically attached to a former partner who doesn’t care any longer. I haven’t figured out why some people become more or less attached after sexual relations. I guess I thought the idea of soul ties confirmed God’s law on fornication. Think about it. If there are not any emotional, psychological, or physical consequences for fornication, why is it wrong? I’d like to believe God’s standards are still relevant in modern society or that they have exist to protect us from harm.

Well, from a purely psychological standpoint, it is wrong because some people cannot handle it. Some people form attachments where there aren’t any and the other person was just having sex, not in a commited ( meaning married) relationship.

It sounds more to me like trying to elevate normal human feelings to the spiritual. The terms gives it more weight than it deserves.

We do form strong bonds with those with whom we share the most intimate union. I believe that is God’s way to keep families together when otherwise we would be prone to wander. But as ShrodingersCat said, even marriages are dissolved at death even when our souls live on.

The term “sounds better” really means “easier to accept” and is the same reason people leave the true church.

At any rate, it’s false.

now I know. I thought soul ties were biblical. It sounded like it. The internet can be misleading.

Isn’t there a passage in the bible about not becoming joined with a prostitute? Or warning us about our body as a temple. I guess I need a Catholic understanding on why fornication is a sin. I know it is a sin at least from painful personal experience. Painful personal experiences doesn’t necessarily make something a sin.
Emotions has little to do with spirituality.

At a biological level, sex releases oxytocin. It’s sometimes called the "“bonding hormone”, as it leads people to feel a a sense of connection with each other. This is the same hormone released during breastfeeding, which can help the mother to connect with her child. Some people have a much stronger reaction to it than others. The bond you feel with this man is natural, but unfortunate. This is one very good reason to avoid fornication. Hopefully it will diminish over time.

Why is fornication a sin? I can think of many reasons. 1) It denies any possible children their natural right to committed, married parents 2) It’s physically unhealthy - it spreads disease 3) It’s mentally unhealthy - it creates these bonds. 4) It takes sex out of its proper place 5) It denies our monogamy to any future spouse.

It’s talking about BODILY.
You can’t join your soul with another person’s soul.
