Isn’t there a passage in the bible about not becoming joined with a prostitute? Or warning us about our body as a temple.
The passage you’re referring to is 1 Corinthians 6:15-21
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Or don’t you know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with Him in spirit. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.
It refers back to Genesis 2:23-24
23The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” 24For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

I thought a soul tie was the same as infatuation. It is a little interesting how sex can cause infatuation for some. I never get infatuated with men I simply like. I didn’t think infatuation could last this long. I know I don’t love him or even truly like him. There is no real bond just unhealthy attachment.
No infatuation has nothing to do with your soul. It’s a purely physical / chemical thing. They can last any length of time; everyone is different.

now I know. I thought soul ties were biblical. It sounded like it. The internet can be misleading.
Everyone in this thread has told you there is no such thing as soul ties. Why are you persisting?

Soul ties do NOT exist.

Probably because they sincerely thought soul ties were in the Bible. No need to be rude thistle.

Now I know. I wasn’t persisting. I wanted people to know where I got that idea. I wanted to see evidence for why it doesn’t exist. Infatuation is interesting. Maybe I’m high in oxytocin. Liking someone rarely causes infatuation for me.

There is no such thing as a soul tie. Period.

It’s possible to feel such an attachment to someone you have never had sex with. Hormones in the brain cause stronger bonds to form; it’s rooted in biology not the supernatural.

The advice I would give is to try and distract yourself from the lovesickness. Meet friends, take up hobbies, volunteer, surround yourself with people who do care for you, find exercise that you enjoy. Don’t fight how you feel, it’s totally natural and not wrong. Just don’t wallow in it. Though telling yourself that he is no good and that you are better off now than you were together is a good idea, which you seem to be doing already 🙂
Hard one - not to fight how you feel!!! Perhaps I would have moved on earlier if I wasn’t so ashamed that I let this bother me or that I got attached. Maybe if I cry, it will finally go away. Amen.

I think he had an attitude in his post honestly. Better to ignore.

Well, from a purely psychological standpoint, it is wrong because some people cannot handle it. Some people form attachments where there aren’t any and the other person was just having sex, not in a commited ( meaning married) relationship.
Is it fornication only wrong for the person spurned? I think fornication is wrong. What about two people with healthy boundaries and just want sex and will not get attached? Fornication consequences vary case by case I suppose. If I believe it is objectively wrong, it has hurt everyone not just one type of person.

Fornication is wrong for whoever does it. It takes two and both are in the wrong.

CCC 2353 Fornication is carnal union between an unmarried man and an unmarried woman. It is gravely contrary to the dignity of persons and of human sexuality which is naturally ordered to the good of spouses and the generation and education of children. Moreover, it is a grave scandal when there is corruption of the young.

Soul ties is a rather recent concept that became popular among charismatics. It found it’s way to Charismatic Catholics. Although, I think breaking soul ties has been a part of deliverance ministries for a longer time.

The theology developed from scripture sited previously and also from knowing that our souls are united in a supernatural way by virtue of belonging to the same Mystical Body.

The teaching is not quite what the OP describes. She describes attraction which has already been attributed to physical and chemical causes.

Some people are able to handle that situation. Or maybe they aren’t even believers.

why do you say so?
Let me repeat AGAIN the Church teaching:

how is it objectively wrong if not everyone suffers the consequences for fornication? Sexual sins is the most difficult to understand. There is no victim if both parties are emotionally stable and consenting.
