Souls in Purgatory

Can the souls in Purgatory see their loved ones here on Earth?

I just attended the funeral of a close friend, a Mom aged 41, who died of cancer. I just thought how beautiful it would be if she could have seen everyone there and how much they loved her.

Thoughts?

So it seems they may well be aware of earthly prayer requests (and by the same token whatever else is going on here) if God so permits it.
 
I read someplace that the soul is dependent on the bodily senses to obtain information of the world and those in it. Thus it is cut off from physical creation while separated from the body after death and before the general resurrection. However, God can infuse knowledge of the world and its inhabitants directly into a soul in Heaven or Purgatory. It seems that He does this for those in Heaven, and that is how our prayers reach the saints. Whether He does transmit this knowledge to those in Purgatory is an unresolved question.

It would then seem that the devil can transmit a distorted form of similar information to those who end up with him. I would expect that he distorts it to increase their suffering.

I don’t remember where I got this. I think it was a reliable source, but not an official Church teaching. I consider it speculation.
