Source for a quote

I was listening to Relevant Radio a while back and heard a quote that was dealing with the topic of pleasing God. It went something along the lines of, I try to please God, I don’t think I am pleasing him, but I think my desire to please him pleases him.

Does anyone know who said this and what the actual quote was? This came up in our bible study tonight and I’m trying to track the official version down. Thanks
 
You might remember that after Judus spoke to Jesus about going to Jerusalam, how people were waiting for Him, that Jesus told Judus not to relate with his head but rather from his heart.

Jesus also said “You say that if you commit adultry then you have done that, but I tell you that if you think (or see) a woman with adultris eyes then you have done it”. Jesus also said “It is not what goes into the mouth that causes a mans downfall but rather it is what comes out of a mans mouth for what comes from a mans mouth comes from his heart”.
Jesus also said “donot be like those who say one thing but really mean another like the leaders who hold the keys to the kingdome but donot come in and they will not allow others to come in”.

So Jesus is saying when you say something mean it allow it to bless our Father in heaven. Ambiguity comes from the devil.

It sounds like Thomas Merton’s Prayer:

My Lord God
I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself,
and the fact that I think I am following
your will does not mean
that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that my desire to please you
does in fact please you.
And I hope that I have that desire
in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything
apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this
you will lead me by the right road
though I may know nothing about it.

I’ve always found a lot of comfort in the idea that “I believe that my desire to please you does in fact please you.”
 
Hey just realised that I gave a lot of info that was not going anywhere and maynot be pleasing to anyone … etc

Any way I’ll have to wake up before writing next time.

Thank you for the prayer from Merton, that is exactly what I was looking for. I was sure that it was one of the “big names” but I didn’t remember which one.
