Sources for Mantilla

I am looking for some good places to get a mantilla. Can anyone directly me to a trustworthy source?
 
modestyveils.com/ is my favorite. They have some very nice ones, not too expensive, and are a pleasure to deal with.

Some other possibilities (I have not ordered from them, so cannot give a personal recommendation for or against):

Search the regular part of eBay also. I have a saved search with “mantilla” as the main term, customized to remove things like Josefina, Josephina, doll, Ray, baseball, china, cup, plate, barbie, comb, combs, bride, bridal & wedding. That way, you’ll get more of what you want and less of what you don’t. I’ve seen and bought lovely ones there.

I have ordered from HaloWorks and was very pleased.

Is there an etiquette that dictates what color mantilla one wears? (I’m a convert and not old enough to remember before vatican II anyway.)

Not really any more - but I’m married and feel very silly wearing a white veil, so I stick to the black or gray ones myself, but I think it’s personal preference these days.

I have found some really gorgeous ones on eBay - but sometimes the prices can get up there for some of the older more rare ones (there is a bronze silk lace from 1950’s Paris that is almost up to $50). There was recently one that was black with deep red lace trim, I wanted that really badly, but it went for over $20 and I like to keep the price down on them if I can. But it’s fun to look and see what’s out there.

In the past an unmarried woman would wear white or lighter colors and married women (or older women who decided they were no longer ‘in the market’) would wear black or darker colors. Of course back then you usually wouldn’t find things like sky blue mantillas!

I have a white one from way back when. Now that I am an ‘old married woman’ and have a regular time at our adoration chapel, I am considering getting a very simple black one to wear during that time.
 
I ordered from Halo-Works and I think satan has a hand in my shipment, LOL! I received my order today, after ordering on Nov 8th, and it wasn’t correct…right now, their person that ships is out on medical leave and they are winging things…bless their hearts, they are just having a hard time with my order. But we are not going to let satan win!

okay, I have an excellent source, … ebay…let me find her, she lives here in Alabama, just south of me…

Catholic Traditions I got a brown one from her and it is pretty. Heavy and hangs rather well. It’s not Spanish, etc…but was at a very good price…like around 17.00…so not bad! She has lots of colors. She shipped it the next day after I ordered.
 
Dana - that is great to know! I’ve looked at her stuff before and really would like the brown one myself. I’m glad to learn that it is more on the heavy side, those don’t tend to slip off my hair as much (I hate using pins or clips).
