Sources for rape victims?

Here is a copy of a statement on one of the posts that was linked from one of those links (I believe it was the article by Dr. Shea):

The Pontifical Academy for Life states that “the absolute unlawfulness of abortifacient procedures also applies to distributing, prescribing and taking the morning-after pill. All who, whether sharing the intention or not, directly co-operate with this procedure are also morally responsible for it.”

It doens’t matter what the U.S. Bishops or various committees say on the matter, this is the Church’s stand because the MAP is an abortifacient.

One of the Bishops commitee links, “Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops” is a dead end because the document is no longer on the website. I’m sorry I don’t have more time to research this matter.

PA…Thank you for looking that up…

I am so confused about it. Father Frank Pavone started an organization called priests for life and he basically is anti-morning after pill…It was from his pamplets that I learned about the poor lady from Canada who died…
I remember being really shocked when I read about it the morality of it being okay. Recently my cousin was raped and had the option of taking the morning after pill. She chose not to and is pregnant with twins.

For myself, I don’t know what I would do in that situation. I think it would depend on whether or not the access I had to the pill was immediate or if it was a questionable time frame. My father is an attorney, and when he was first starting out he was an assistant DA before going into private practice. I remember talking with him as a teenager about rape cases, as he had prosecuted several in his early days. I remember asking if rape usually results in a pregnancy, and he said what you pointed out earlier–that it is extremely, extremely rare. The statistics you found support that, too. Still, it does happen, as my cousin is evidence of that.

My cousin chose not to take it because she was afraid she would be haunted by the “what if” factor for the rest of her life. She claims she knew, without a doubt, that the rape would result in conception, after it took place. She just had a “feeling.” She knew her body and knew she was ovulating.

She is extremely pregnant right now, though not due for a couple more months. She really struggles with the visible reminder of her rape–the belly–on a daily basis.

Some people have said to her, why didn’t you take it? And it’s hard for her to even find words to answer that question…but she knows that the souls of her babies are innocent and precious in God’s eyes. It’s hard to even wrap my mind around the fact that had she taken the pill, these two little girls would not be on their way into the world.

Abby,

Your precious cousin is in my prayers. She is a woman living her faith in ways that most of us are never, ever called to. She must be an incredible woman.

Well…God Bless her!!! Those little girls might be what heals her!

:amen:

We need more people who have been raped and chose life to step forward and share their story. There’s only so much I can do when a pro-choicer asks me “what if she’s raped”, but someone who’s actually been there and chose life could really put them in their place. God bless her!

1ke, thanks for those links. All.org is particularly awesome (although I haven’t found any counseling links yet, but I’m looking). The other link you gave me seems to be down, though.

Does anyone else have any sources for the relief or rape victims?

And LSK, I’ll add your link right away. If you’d like to add mine it’s school-is-evil.blogspot.com/. It’s mostly clean but there might be one or two bad words here and there, particularly if I can’t think of a better way to put something with the same impact. I could make it 100% straight and narrow, but there are already so many of those. 😉

Sorry if this is a repeat-
A woman who has been raped should be able to defend herself from a potential conception and receive treatments to suppress ovulation and incapacitate sperm.
usccb.org/prolife/issues/abortion/ecfact.htm

So a catholic woman who is raped should seek medical care asap. She should be tested for ovulation . Then decisions can be made as to the next step.

That link doesn’t seem to work.

Also, not to be rude, but while I do enjoy the conversation, I still really need some sources. Are they that hard to find?

Strange how I see so many catholic sites FAIL miserably to bespeak of REAL HELP for male rape victims.
In my case being a heterosexual male rape victim.
We live in an indifferent society that is quick to prejudge everything.

Centurionguard,

I saw your story in another posting and it is so horrific - I’ll pray for you. After checking a bit, it seems you are right, I couldn’t find Catholic rape victim help for men. Do you think it is possible that you could start something? Your ability to survive and continue forward even after such a heinous act is mind boggling. I think perhaps it isn’t around because of the stigma associated with it - maybe there are many Catholic men out there who would welcome support and assistance. Just a thought.

Hello Happy Revert;

Thank you for your genuine reply. Your suggestion of me starting my own site for Catholic Male Rape Victims is commendable.
Fact is until now in the last four months I started my own Blog site. centurionguard57.blogspot.com/.
The incredible stigma attached to any victim of rape be they children, women and men is unspeakable. And as good as secular shrinks largely supported by pharmaceutical companies claim to be, I can “never” believe that even those who are genuinely humane in sympathizing with rape victims can really (“fully”) understand what any rape victim has to endure inside their own psyche and immortal soul. Believe me when
I say that for many rape victims it is a silent living hell living alone and imprisoned in the neither world of immense psychological pain and affliction. Sadly for some victims it has cost them their very life. I know what this feels like inside. I struggle to keep my Catholic faith strongly grounded on the moral orthodox teachings of the church fore-fathers and the saints. Still I must fight clinging hope where there is none to be found living in The Dark Night of the Soul. Being a long time member with the Knights of Columbus and trying every resource within the catholic church I always run into road blocks of miss-informed people and a huge heaping mountain of indifference. Should I be naive to have expected more help in my own Roman Catholic Church where there is none. Why should any rape victim and especially those who happen to be men be biasedly shunned. Being Heterosexual I do not pay heed to secular statistics that state that most male rape victims are homosexual. And you wonder why so few male rape victims seek public help and even within the walls of the Catholic Church. What a great shame. Shame indeed.

Greetings MamaMary;

I want to sincerely thank you for sharing these resources.
In my travels I have been graced to know a number of women who are victims of rape. Being a heterosexual male rape victim myself I have found most of my consoling peace in speaking and sharing my emotions with women who have fallen victims to rape from my own country Canada, the United States and the U.K.
I have been humbled to know and share in such ineffable pain and suffering. It has taken me some fifty-one years to find spiritual growth. Without such women with great courage, strength, and wisdom to push on in their sufferings I really don’t know where I would be today. Hoping to hear from you more.

Sincere Kinds Regards
Chris
