But in order to describe the difference between the Catholic Church and other church which I believe teach false doctrine, I will use the word heretical and heretic to describe the churches teachings simply because I believe it is gravely wrong. I don’t use protestant much, I will use Heretical. It does not mean I will not also describe them as “fellow Christians”.
heretic, as defined by dictionary.com:
  1. a professed believer who maintains religious opinions contrary to those accepted by his or her church or rejects doctrines prescribed by that church.
  2. anyone who does not conform to an established attitude, doctrine, or principle.
Looks to me like it’s a matter of “I’m right and you’re wrong” kinda thing. Doesn’t sound too Christian-like. 😦

Ah notice the word conformed:eek: and it being linked to a set of beliefs or else.

I agree mrs. a

Have her eating habits changed since she started to love Leviticus? All those food laws:whacky: :rotfl:
Well, she HAS started eating turkey bacon, now that you mention it. I thought it was just a health thing, but maybe not. 😛

…and when Catholic doctrines “develop” the process is often accompanied by the claim that “this is the way that it has always been” but, now, we “simply have a more fuller and mature understanding” of the doctrine.
So what do you think was meant when we are told in scripture that we will be “led to all truth”?

Doesn’t that imply a certain amount of developing understanding?

God Bless,
Maria

Sure…and maybe some of that development of understanding was contributed by Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Wesley, et al.

Maybe. But frequently they came up with completely new things never found in the early Church. (I do like John Wesley though:D )

One of the things about the Catholic Church, is we see seeds of understandings in the Early writings of the Church for example. The immculate conception, the ECF wrote about Mary being the New Eve.
How Can You Say That Mary Is the ‘New Eve’?
By Kenneth J. Howell
The phrase “New Eve” or similar expressions occur in the early Church Fathers. Take, for example, Justin Martyr, who wrote within a couple of generations of the apostles. In his *Dialogue with Trypho the Jew *(ca. A.D. 150), Justin explains that Christ destroyed Satan’s work in the same way evil originally entered the world. Evil entered through Eve while she was still a virgin; so too salvation entered through Mary while she was still a virgin. Each woman willingly participated in the act they performed. Neither was an unconscious instrument. Eve listened to the serpent and conceived death. Mary listened to the angel Gabriel and conceived life. Justin sees this clearly in Luke 1:38 when Mary says, “Let it be to me according to your word.” Thus, for Justin, Christ’s becoming a man involved his Mother’s willing cooperation in undoing the tangled web of sin that Eve introduced.
But we (or maybe more appropriately, I) digress:o

Your sister in Christ,
Maria

Although the ECF ARE a source other than the Bible:D

Well, we are supposed to be conforming ourselves to the beliefs that Christ gave us to believe, are we not? 😉

Conforming is only a bad thing when we are using something sinful as our model. It is good and right to conform to Christ, though, since it is in conforming to Christ that we become our most authentic selves - the people that God created us to be.

i dont know about others but i ONLY use the Bible and prayer to God and Jesus alone(even thoguh they r the same).to shape my consience.i know not everything is flat out mentioned in the Bible but with God’s help i try 2 distinguish between right and wrong
