By Jenna MurphyPIERRE, SOUTH DAKOTA, July 22, 2008, (LifeSiteNews.com) - This past Friday, a law mandating that South Dakota’s physicians tell all women seeking an abortion that they are “terminating the life of a whole separate, unique living human being” went into effect…

Awesome! Thank you, Lord!

Please take a moment and pray for an end to abortion.

I would be curious to see what specific complaints PP has against the consent “script”. I see that a spokeswoman has called it a “terrible, terrible barrier” to procuring an abortion, but with no explanation to back it up.

Obviously, I understand that their real objection is that it presents an abortion as something far more serious than a simple procedure to rid a woman of the “by-products of conception”, but I can’t help but wonder what their official, media-friendly rationale is…

Because some women might actually change their minds and not get an abortion. That will be a serious blow to their revenue stream as the money collected from an abortion (around $500 to $700 I believe) is their primary source of income.

For PP, money is as important as ideology.

Interesting…on their website for the area, it states that they are “Your trusted local provider of health information and services.”

They can’t even give good information in good conscious.

No, I understand this- but obviously, if pressed about their resistance to informed consent laws, they wouldn’t SAY this. I’m wondering what their “official statement” would be.

I’m sincerely interested in what ideological approach they take to justifying the objection to education of women vis a vis health care issues.

I suspect they would try to turn “Freedom of Speech”, “Doctor-patient confidentiality”, and “informed consent” on their heads. those were the arguments they used when attempting to have the law thrown out.

Will have to google SD and find out how this came about. Sounds unbelivable given the state of the U.S. right now. Now all we have to do is work on the other 49.👍

Well, according to the website for Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota:
This law, the only one of its kind in the U.S forces doctors to give ideologically charged, nonscientific and inaccurate messages to their patients.
“We have always believed and worked hard to ensure that every woman has the best, medically accurate information so that she can make the right decision for her unique circumstances. Stoesz said. “This law is not about informed consent, it’s about compelling doctors to deliver state mandated ideology,” Stoesz said.
“Planned Parenthood is committed to true informed consent. We want patients to fully participate in decisions about their health care. That requires that doctors have the ability to provide accurate and unbiased medical information to patients without the interference of government and politicians,” said Stoesz.
“Planned Parenthood will continue it’s commitment to the health and safety of women and families and will, as we always have, comply fully with all federal, state and local laws,” Stoesz said. “We will also continue to fight to ensure that women in South Dakota have access to safe, legal abortion.” Stoesz said.

Boy, I can’t believe they didn’t choke on what they were printing. How could they actually believe the rubbish they were spouting. More reasons to pray for sanity of the decision makers at Planned Parenthood, I guess.

I was just reading what a Canadian abortionist had to say. 😦 He thinks he’s doing a wonderful thing for these women “in trouble”. Most pro-choicers I have known really believe they are standing up for a woman’s right not to die in a botched back-alley abortion, or for a woman’s protection from her own child, whom they see as a mysterious danger, instead of a tiny human who needs her. This law will go a long way toward showing people what an abortion really means.

I read this.
What really struck me is that he could only speak of the negative that he witnessed every day that eventually led him to believe he is helping people out in performing this procedure.

Seems to me that if someone can go years only seeing the negative around them, they need some kind of psychological help.

I do not doubt he believes he is helping. But I also have no doubt that there is something warping his view that has led him to this.

He has my pity.

… there is something warping his view that has led him to this.

To sum up the changes I went through over the 5 years it took for me to come from supporting abortion for the same reasons he did, to what I now believe (abortion is murder):

It’s based in seeing sex as an entitlement for use as recreation, as opposed to seeing sex as unitive and procreative!

Ruthie
