Quote from Orange County Register article by Steven Greenhut.

"•In February 2000, Bishop Brown forwarded to priests two articles by Fr. Gerald D. Coleman dealing with the Prop. 22 ban on homosexual marriage. The article, the bishop wrote, “expresses very well my own thoughts on this subject.” Fr. Coleman, a Bay Area priest who writes regularly for the Diocese of Orange newspaper, supported Prop. 22, but argued, “Some homosexual persons have shown that it is possible to enter into long-term, committed and loving relationships, named by certain segments of our society as domestic partnerships.”

It seems like these problems start at the top and then it turns into a ripple effect. It just filters down from the top and before you know it one bad apple spoils the whole bunch.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a Vatican hotline number we could dial up to report heretical bishops?

I just got the funniest image in my head of a “Dial-an-Inquisition”. Would be nice, no?

Fr Coleman, is he a Jesuit? so… because doves mate for life shall we ask Holy Mother Church to marry them too!
Crikey I wish people within the Church would read thier catechism, and leave this damn issue in the rubbish where it belongs

Why are you taking a nearly 3 year old OPINION piece that refers to an alleged letter of 5 years ago that allegedly cites Bishop Brown of recommending two articles (of which your only lift a single quote from one of the articles) and from all that accuse our bishop of supporting a postion on homosexual relationships that the article’s author says he doesn’t support???

If you see Bishop Brown on TV publicly calling for same sex marriage then let us know.

Meanwhile our bishop has been busy apologizing to and compensating victims of abuse, sponsoring pro-life programs, opposing stem-cell research, etc.

Please see the memo for yourself.

This letter, issued in opposition to the ballot measure to define marriage, was reported to the Vatican at the time.

No, you didn’t miss the story on the Vatican’s reaction.

 I guess we know why we never hear about our diocese in the news in support of traditional marriage, right to life, etc. They have a different view on Catholic Teachings. I find it strange how San Francisco, one of the most liberal and progressive cities in the U.S. has more traditional Catholics than Orange County as a whole. Where are we?

Note that Father Coleman, whose letter Bishop Brown quoted, was head of the seminary for the archdiocese of San Francisco at the time. I think he has since been replaced but have no information on the reasons for his replacement.

This isn’t just about the priest as a person. This is about the leader of a parish leading his flock into possible sin. These priest shouldn’t be allowed to turn the Church into a mockery. If they no longer believe church teachings then they shouldn’t be able to call themselves Roman Catholic priests of any diocese. Those parishoners deserve better.

I LOVE the ides of “secret liturgy parishoners” - you know like secret shoppers, but they grade the priest/parish for compliance?!

I’m telling you, we need a new Inquisition. Leave out the secular punishments that the Inquisition is so infamous for, but let’s get a real house-cleaning going on. I suppose it would cause more problems then it would solve in the long run, but it’s sure tempting sometimes.

**Now there’s an idea:clapping: . **

Catholics need to know their rights and when their not getting true Catholic Doctrine. Too many Catholics don’t know their faith anymore so when priests and bishops are teaching and preaching heresy it goes right over their heads, totally unnoticed.

I wonder if there is a orthodox Catholic organization that puts out booklets or pamphlets with a title something like
:

"What to do and where to go when your bishop or priest is preaching heresy"
or
"When good bishops go bad and what to do if you have One"
**and **
"What is heresy and is it happening in your parish or in your diocese"? :yup:

Imagine if Catholic churches had these little booklets in the back of the church with a 1800 # to call. I bet that would curtail a lot of the heretical activity by these bad bishops and priests. They would know people were watching they would have to be careful.

**I think many if not most Catholics want to know the truth whether it conforms to their life or not. The problem is many Catholics don’t know the truth when they hear it because they seldom do hear it. I think this is one of the reasons we have Catholics leaving the church and going to places like Calvary Chapel they tell it like it is whether the people like it or not. **

From Saint Faustina’s Diary - Notebook 6 - Jesus’ words in red

** Toward the end of the Way of the Cross which I was making, the Lord Jesus began to complain about the souls of religious and priests, about the lack of love in chosen souls. I will allow convents and churches to be destroyed. I answered, “Jesus, but there are so many souls praising You in convents.” The Lord answered, that praise wounds My Heart, because love has been banished from convents. Souls without love and without devotion, souls full of egoism and self-love, souls full of pride and arrogance, souls full of deceit and hypocrisy, lukewarm souls who have just enough warmth to keep them alive: My Heart cannot bear this. All the graces that I pour out upon them flow off them as off the face of a rock. I cannot stand them, because they are neither good or bad. I called convents into being to sanctify the world through them. It is from them that a powerful flame of love and sacrifice should burst forth. And if they do not repent and become enkindled by their first love, I will deliver them over to the fate of this world… How can they sit on the promised throne of judgment to judge the world, when their guilt is greater than the guilt of the world? There is neither penance nor atonement. O heart, which received me in the morning and at noon are all ablaze with hatred against Me, hatred of all sorts! O heart specially chosen by Me, were you chosen for this, to give Me more pain? The great sins of the world are superficial wounds on My Heart, but the sins of a chosen soul pierce My Heart through and through… **

I had the same general thought prior to the election!

Where is the real inquisition when we need it?

WOW!

Exactly! It’s our right as Catholics to hear the Truth, and, as GloriaPatri4 said, most Catholics really do crave the Truth. I think people are mature enough to hear people like Fr. Corapi who aren’t afraid to tell it like it is. I think people crave it. I know I do. Heck, when I’m doing something wrong I want to know. I don’t want my Salvation jeopardized because of poor teaching.

Heck, I’m not even asking for heavy-hitters like Corapi all over the place; I’d be happy with some honest-to-God orthodoxy monitoring in the U.S. Throw those of us in the pews a bone and help us protect ourselves and our brothers and sisters from heresy! Putting a little fear of God in our pastors isn’t such a bad thing, IMO 😃

In reference to SSA priests, where can I find the Holy Father’s words about the tempatation inherent in SSA priests living so closely together?
