Southern Californians - Does anyone know why CatholicFamilyRadio was taken off the air?

It’s been quite awhile (4 or 5 years) since Catholic Family Radio was taken off the air (I believe it was AM 820). Are there any Southern Californians that were regular listeners and if so do you know why the program was taken off the air?

CFR was much biggger than just the station in So. Cal. They had a bad and overly ambitious business plan accompanied by a series of programming and hosts which was not ideal. So they eventually had to cut bait and sell off all their properties. Stations were lost in several other markets, also.

Thanks for the info. Has Catholic Family Radio completely gone out of business nation wide?

I surely miss listening to the Catholic radio programs in my car.

“Catholic Family Radio” was a branding name for their format. The holding company was called “Catholic Radio Network” as I recall. They have completely liquidiated their assets. Long gone.

There are some other Catholic radio apostolates which have proceeded differently and more regionally (mainly in the midwest), including Ave Maria Radio and Relevant Radio. I suppose that anyone who could afford to buy a radio station (or time on a station) might be able to enter into an agreement with them to air their programming. Of course, EWTN broadcasts on shortwave and via Sirius. So that is always an option, too.

Ironically, in Chicago, a different Catholic broadcaster has now come to broadcast on the same signals which CFR once did.
