Why would any parent agree to adopt a child that they could not raise in their faith? And why would a government, of what I presumed was a democratic country, sign such an agreement that obviously obliterates the rights of the adoptive parents? If Morocco wants to raise these children as Muslims, then maybe they should find Muslims to raise them instead of shipping them off to be raised by, what I’d assume to be mostly, Catholic parents, being that Spain is a predominantly Catholic nation? Some of the things people do boggle the mind. Is it political correctness or something? The governments of Spain and Morocco have agreed that Moroccan children adopted by Spanish families must be raised as Muslims. "The agreement obliges the Spanish government to …

No government “owes” foreign applicants the right to adoption, whatsoever. This is an unjust interference of the right of parents to raise their children according to their convictions.
The decision is only authoritarian, and lacks any sense of a backbone whatsoever.

Actually, that basically is what Moroccan law has been The decision by Spain is intended to allow non-Muslim parents to “adopt” Moroccan children by guaranteeing their faith until age 18.If Morocco wants to raise these children as Muslims, then maybe they should find Muslims to raise them
religionclause.blogspot.com/2013/02/spain-agrees-that-children-adopted-from.htmlAs explained in a Morocco News Board report last year, in Islamic law raising a child that is not one’s genetic offspring is encouraged, but the young person does not become the true child of the adoptive parents. Instead, in an arrangement known as kafala the child is monitored to assure that he or she is raised as a Muslim. Because monitoring of children abroad is difficult, last year Morocco’s Ministry of Justice and Freedoms issued Circular No. 40 S/2 providing that kafala would be allowed only for parents who reside permanently in Morocco. Spain’s new arrangement allows Spanish parents to avoid the restrictions in Circular 40 S/2.
I know very little about these issues, so perhaps you can clarify. Tthe article I quoted seems to indicate that adoption (as practiced in the West) is not recognized by Islamic law. A child can not acquire new parents. This doesn’t mean that adult women or couples are not allowed to raise orphans… just that the orphans do not become their children.Muslims are forbidden to adopt anyway, so in effect this makes the process futile.
