From the Columbus Dispatch:A local politician says he was asked to step aside as the commencement speaker at a Catholic high school in Columbus because he has been an advocate for same-sex marriage rights.

(snip)

O’Grady, a 1982 Ready graduate, said Principal Celene Seamen asked him to give the speech about two months ago, but he was told last week that he would not be needed. He said he was told that the decision came from Columbus Bishop Frederick Campbell and was based on the commissioner’s co-chairmanship of the Freedom to Marry initiative, which supports overturning the state’s ban on gay marriage.

(snip)

The decision to revoke O’Grady’s invitation came less than three months after the diocese fired a gay physical-education teacher at Bishop Watterson High School in Clintonville. The firing came after the teacher, Carla Hale, had the name of her partner published in a newspaper obituary.

God Bless Bishop Campbell!

What do these people expect; they hold views against the Church; find some place else to speak and work.

A politician from a corrupt world which children of God are called to not be of isn’t really a good choice for commencement speaker anyways.

**Did Celene Seamen know John O’Grady support homosexual marriage before inviting him?

God Bless Bishop Frederick Campbell **

Sooo glad to see this, but our Catholic schools need to check the speakers out before hand and avoid this situation.👍

What about the IQ of the person who asked the speaker to speak.

You know, it only takes a couple of minutes to do a google search. Institutions who invite public officials like this bring the embarrassment and negative publicity on themselves.

In all fairness, local government tends not to deal with these things directly, so it’s ent7reoy possible such information was not available online.

Wow I do feel sorry for the gay PE teacher who got fired right after her partner died, though. And good luck finding a straight PE teacher.

Did this woman have a mean streak, or did her partner die?

Miss Hale’s partner did not die. Her mother died and Carla Hale’s girlfriend was listed in her mother’s obituary as her partner. She was terminated for breaking the morality clause of her contract.

FYI - Stereotyping all PE teachers as gay is a bit uncharitable.

I didn’t mean it to be uncharitable and I didn’t mean it in a negative way. Almost every single PE teacher I ever had (all but one or 2) was gay. It’s extremely common. I didn’t mean that straight PE teachers simply don’t exist. Apologies if anyone was offended.
