Our church has both a Pulpit and Lectern. Yesterday some teens from the youth group spoke during the various Masses requesting donations for upcoming service projects from the Pulpit. It was just after Communion but before Mass ended. One of the reasons they may have been using the Pulpit was an adult speaker had just finished making an announcement about requesting volunteers for the parish council from the Lectern. It was sort of like watching dueling announcements.
This happens a lot in my church and I don’t know what to make of it. Sometimes the pastor will use the Pulpit at that time (just after Communion) for “a brief word from your sponsor” when he needs to make an announcement about the upcoming carnival or parking or whatever. My question is since we have both Pulpit and Lectern, shouldn’t announcements come from the Lectern?
