Humblest apologises it is 2 Timothy not Ephesians and yes it would be fair to say Pauls reference at the time was to the Old testament But you misunderstand the point im trying to convey. Any person in this modern day time who has been blessed and chosen to preach (via sermon or publishing material) a message from God shouldn’t be ignored. But what i am saying if the message they are preaching contradicts with the bible then how can we be certain that this message has come from God.

When the disciples asked Christ what would be the sign of his coming his reply was take heed that no man decieve you - Matt 24 : 4

if you take away the authority of the bible you have no standard to prove the preachings of man. 2 Thessalonions 5: 20-21 Despise not prophesying. Prove all things, hold fast that which is good. Making yourself vulnerable to the deception of the false teachers and prophets.

Forgive me this but some of the posts here are sounding a little Protestant. Coming from an
Evangelical background some of this just sounds like the same stuff pentecostals say. And
By fruits we know that the last thing that sect has is the guidance of the Holy Spirit. From
All evidence I’ve seen in Sacred Scripture gits of the Spirit flow when God needs them to and
not because someone learned how to do it. The Apostles needed no training to speak on Pentecost.
God saw the need at the moment and the Apostles had it.

I do agree that all the gifts are available for Christian use but not to show how “avanced” we are
but for when God finds them useful. I really don’t mean to offend but the most doctrinally weak
movement in modern Christianity is the reformed charismatic movement. Its fruits are confusion.
It bothers me that Catholic charismatics seem to mimic the Protestant flavor far to closely in its understanding
of the spiritual gifts. I realize that Catholic charismatics are loyal to the magisterium (God bless them)
but I do think that our movement has some of the same misunderstandings as our separated brethren.

can I ask you what misunderstandings you think that we have? Maybe those can be cleared up through this discussion.

Question is do you believe The Holy BIBLE to be the the word of God?
No, Remnant. This is not the question of this thread. Go back and look at the OP (original post - #1) and you will see it.
Ephesisans 3 : 16 - ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
I think you need to check your references. 😉

Do you know how the Bible was formed? Do you know how the chapters and verses go there?
Code:
I am willing to listen to another persons thoughts on the scripture because even modern day prophets are not in the BIBLE but as Isaiah 8 : 20 says to the law and testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them
You may have chosen the wrong thread.
Code:
1 Corinthians 4 :6 ...that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written
Paul was speaking about the example he had just written to the Corinthians, not to the NT, which was not yet formed. Neither did he know the letter he was writing would eventually be included. You are taking the verse out of context.
Code:
So in actual fact the BIBLE is our only authority because any extrabibilical doctrine which doesn't coincide with the word of God hasn't come from God. Not my words the BIBLE'S.
Sorry, what you have said here is not written itn eh Bible. In fact, what you write here IS an extrabiblical doctrine that does not coincide with the Words that came from God. You have misunderstood, as well as wrongly cited, the scriptures.

Pauls reference at the time was to the Old testament
Actually, it is to the example he just gave. However, that is not in the scope of this thread.
But you misunderstand the point im trying to convey. Any person in this modern day time who has been blessed and chosen to preach (via sermon or publishing material) a message from God shouldn’t be ignored.
Really? Where does it say THAT in your Bible?

On the contrary, the Apostles teach us to avoid such persons:
1 Tim 4:1-2 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 through the pretensions of liars whose consciences are seared,

We are to avoid such “sermons” and those who preach them.Only those sent by Apostolic Authority are to be recieved.
But what i am saying if the message they are preaching contradicts with the bible then how can we be certain that this message has come from God.
What you are saying is that you are using your perceptions of what scripture says as the standard to judge the truth.
Code:
if you take away the authority of the bible you have no standard to prove the preachings of man.
I am sure this is true for you, since you are separated from the Apostolic Succession. It is not true for Catholics, though. Our faith was complete before the Scripture was written, and does not come from a “bible base” but from Jesus himself.

I’ll pray for you on one condition – that you will pray for me.🙂

Quick note to our non-theist and miscellaneous friends. My non-theist daughter accepts my prayers and sends me good thoughts in return. Will you do the same?
I was following along and trying to digest all of this because I was at baptism of the Holy Spirit and someone there spoke in tongues. I’m trying to get my self to the truth of this. When you said this about sending good thoughts that made me think of the New Age religion. I would like to know about how you think these good thoughts are sent? Are you receiving these good thoughts? Are they good thoughts that you want to receive?

Just trying to learn.

Well, I beg to differ. Jesus spent three years with them every day, tutoring them on how to discern the movement of the Spirit.

Yes, the Spirit is the author of the Gifts, and they do not operate apart from His inspiration, but people can, and do “quench” the spirit. It is possible to learn how not to do this.

Indeed. It is a puzzle why such emphasis would be given on the “least” of the gifts. 🤷

I agree. The further one goes from the oversight of Peter, the weaker they become.

I have seen some contamination, for sure. However, there are many Catholics, disgusted by the contamination, that are willing to throw away the birthright.

1 Corinthians 14:1-4 NLT
“Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives-especially the ability to prophesy. For if you have the ability to speak in tongues,*you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious. But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.”

1 Corinthians 14:10-14 NLT
“There are many different languages in the world, and every language has meaning. But if I don’t understand a language, I will be a foreigner to someone who speaks it, and the one who speaks it will be a foreigner to me. And the same is true for you. Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church.
So anyone who speaks in tongues should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said. For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.”

This should help 👍 God bless to all!!!

Not all the gifts of the Spirit are needed for today. Tongues, healings, prophecy are just three that have creased.

I’m assuming you mean ceased.:)I disagree with your assertion.Healings happen quite often within the One True Church.I have also witnessed tongues being spoken during a healing mass and the immediate interpretation of same.Personal revelation,( belief not required by the Church),has occurred and does occur with regularity.

The reason why tongues, healing and prophesy has ceased has nothing to do with God removing it from the faith. The problem is the baptisms were corrupted, changing how the apostles has established them in the church, creating a church that had, has a form of godliness, but denies or quenches the Holy Spirit.

It is written, quench not the spirit.

1 Thess. 5:19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

1 Cor. 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Jude1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

It is the loss of faith why these things are not seen in most denominations today. Yet, it is not that these gifts or signs have been removed by God, but because it has been removed by men.

Who are you to decide which gifts of the Spirit are no longer needed? The hubris is astonshing.

There is as much need for these gifts now as there was in the fourth century. If there were not, God would not have given them. In case you have not read the scriptures, the gifts of the Spirit are for the building up of the Body, and this will be necessary until the great wedding feast.

Furthermore, the gifts and call of God cannot “cease” or be taken back. They will pass away when the earth passes away, for at that time, they will no longer be needed.

You may have decided that these gifts don’t have a place in your life today. It is a sad fact that you can exclude yourself from their benefits, but they will continue to be active in the Church until theLord comes, whether you wish to partake of them, or not.

Well, heis, if you were to read the NT, you would see that this is the only way that they could “cease”. The gifts and call of God are irrevocable.

I think you must believe this so that you can justify rejecting those that were appointed by the Apostles to shepherd the Church.

I agree that people do quench the Spirit. However, in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, these gifts are alive and well. Baptism has been corrupted by those who have separated it from the Apsotolic Teachings.

I have attended a few Charismatic events. At each one, I saw praying in tongues. People were worshipping GOD so deeply and attentively that they started using tongues. It ranged from teeth chatter to something that sounded like Hebrew. One Catholic guy had a “hick a dee” pattern going on. It was weird.

One time last summer, I prayed in tongues at a charismatic prayer circle. Maybe it was only the power of suggestion, who knows?

I have never experienced anyone speaking in tongues.

Has anyone here spoken in Tongues?I am particularly interested in hearing from those who have done so prior to converting to Catholicism. All others are welcome too.🙂
Yes, I have spoken in tongues. I was born again at the age of fifteen, and then received the baptism of the Holy Spirit I believe when I was around the age of 21. Not long after receiving this baptism, I was baptized in water.

As for speaking in tongues, I have not done it in church. To do that tongue requires the gift of tongues for the edification of the church.

The tongues I pray in is my prayer language. It is known as praying in the spirit. We cannot pray a perfect prayer, but the Holy Spirit of God can. When we pray in tongues, we are doing so by faith and the Holy Spirit prays for us, through us to God, being able to see in our future to what and where we need prayer. The Holy Spirit prays the perfect prayer.

Everyone here is using the bible to justify tongues in some way or another. Could anyone provide some officaly Catholic material regarding the matter? What does the Church teach about it and what should we as catholics be carefull of?

As for the CC stand on the subject, I don’t believe they discourage it. Here are some scriptures that all pertain to the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations; baptize them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit;

Acts 1:5 For John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 11:16 I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said,‘John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’
