Speaking of Modesty - Veils/Headcoverings

TBH, headcoverings were always part of Catholic faith tradition but women need to cover out of their own conscience, not because someone is pressuring them.

I also find it sad to think that people would find headcovering women distracting when there will be plenty of young women and girls wearing short-shorts to church, revealing tank tops, and phrases with the words “diva” and “tease” on their shirts. Headcoverings are distracting and are the antithesis of modesty, whereas the others are…?

I’m curious where you go to mass - I’ve almost never seen anything like that happen, and I don’t exactly live in a super-conservative parish. I’m right in the middle of a college town and I still very rarely see someone dressed like that for Mass. I might prefer a bit nicer clothing, but at least people have the sense to keep everything covered.

Technically these ladies are dressed in “nice” clothing, but it’s still super form-fitting.
I read this quote, and I forget who its by, but I quite like it:

“Your dresses should be tight enough to show you’re a woman, and loose enough to show you’re a lady.”

I have to say, I haven’t seen any racy graphic t-shirts, if I see anything that makes my eyebrows go up, it’s generally short skirts, or skin-tight skirts (pencil) in my congregation.

I’ve even seen sweat pants with paw prints or words on the back, in very strategic places. As if sweat pants for church aren’t enough.

So far everyone is still in their coats, it’s too cold here, but you can see legs under coats, so you know there are mini skirts underneath.

We’ve been to our new parish a couple of times and so far I haven’t seen anyone with anything on their head, not even very old ladies or someone with a hat to keep their head warm. I did get some weird looks, though, with my scarf. Hope they get used to it, it’s a small congregation and small neighbourhood.

That’s pretty much what I see, too. Young women (18-25) in miniskirts and/or platform hooker pumps. And let’s just say that at 20, I was not at my most demure either.

Since it isn’t a requirement to cover my head, i don’t. I wouldn’t be able to stand anything on my head. Truly this is a personal choice for a woman that want to do this. Personally, i don’t use make up, and i watch to dress modest.

If you are the only one covered, you will draw the attention. If you are the only one not cover, you will also draw the attention.

I think you need to be modest in your heart and all will be well.

They will. I’m the only one who covers in my congregation too, though our church is big(ish). I’ve gotten lots of looks, but no questions yet, which I’m sort of thankful for as I don’t have a practiced answer to: “Why do you cover?”

Lol! Amen to that! I’m pretty sure I’d be ashamed of most of what I wore at 20 too!
But the whole dressing like you’re going to a club when you go to church thing, I’ve never understood.
Bizarrely. where I’ve seen that the MOST is at the Reformed Church. Technically the girls are wearing “nice” clothes, but the hooker-heels and the cat-suit dresses…really?!
It’s very weird imo.
But maybe these girls don’t get to dress up much, and church is where the young men are, soo…

Anyway, here’s how I went to Mass this past Sunday:

And I didn’t get too many weird looks, though the place was packed from the Easter service.
I’ve found it’s the young women that look so puzzled - no one else seems to notice! Lol!

Well, I’ve worn them once or twice, but that was when I was lucky to be able to go at all, I had some health problems and it was difficult to put any clothes on. But I made sure to wear my best sweats, really nice ones, and I tried to disguise them with other clothes. But unfortunately I doubt there are so many injured people at church every Sunday.

And you look so sweet in this picture.
I wear a grey infinity scarf that I just put over my head and put some hairpins in to keep it from slipping. I’m new to this and this was the easiest way to start. I have to check how I can post photos here.
I think one man actually smiled when he saw me do it before we went in, but the others looked at me strangely. The priest’s face I couldn’t decipher. I hope he is okay with it, I would love to be more active in this new parish.
