Was there a feast of Pentecost in the OT or in Jesus’ time? I thought I read in Poem of the Man-God by Maria Valtorta that the apostles would meet in Jerusalem for the feast of Pentecost. I know the books are not sanctioned as absolute truth, but I was just curious… If so, what were they celebrating? Thanks.

From Wikipedia:

Pentecost (Ancient Greek: Πεντηκοστή ἡμέρα], Pentēkostē [hēmera], “the fiftieth [day]”) is the Greek name for the Feast of Weeks, a prominent feast in the calendar of ancient Israel celebrating the giving of the Law on Sinai. This feast is still celebrated in Judaism as Shavuot.

Right. Pentecost started as a harvest festival, but became associated with the giving of the Law to Moses on Mt. Sinai. During Jesus’s time, it was one of the three week-long pilgrimage feasts (the other two being Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles/Booths). It occurs 7 weeks after the beginning of Passover. This actually makes the feast of Pentecost important - the Old Covenant, begun with Passover, was finalized at Pentecost with the giving of the Law; the New Covenant, likewise begun with Passover, was also finalized at Pentecost. The difference? When the Law was being given to Moses, the Israelites turned away from God and worshipped the golden calf. When the Holy Spirit was given to the apostles, thousands of Jews believed God and were baptized.

Thank you for the information. I had no idea. How can anyone think these events were not planned by God the Father for his children? How can they think this stuff is coincidence??? I am again in AWE of the Father!!! The prophecy fulfillments and all the other actions. Mind-boggling!
