Well as long as you don’t believe that it s not the case. We need to remember the Jesus set up His church here on earth with those He chooses to be in charge. And he did say :
1 Matthew 18:18 Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven
Good luck in your journey.👍

I will pray for you. I know exactly where you are coming from I was once there. Do some studying so you can learn what it is exactly what the church teaches.

I make a point to let people know that chemical BC is an aboritifcant. Many people, even Christians, are not informed of that and that is part of the reason for their ambivalence.
Do you think its easier for women to have this conversation since they are normally the ones responsible for it?

It is extremely hard for men to bring it up amongst non-nfp men and its just plain inappropriate for men to bring up in conversation with women.

Well, if the experience of Janet Smith and others who have dealt with NFP is to be considered, the answer would be “no”. Women seem to have more fear that men will not go along with NFP than men do of the process. The fear seems to be that the man will not “put up with” a woman not being sexually “available” 24/7/365.

to stlucy where in the bible does it say contraception is wrong.
The references you’ve been given already show an implicent reference to the evil of contraception.

Sinless contraception is a Sola Scriptura invention. Here’s the source:

ccli.org/nfp/morality/bible.php

And here’s a quote from a nice, short, precise article:
The classical Jewish commentators — who can scarcely be accused of ignorance regarding Hebrew language, customs, law, and biblical literary genres — certainly saw in this passage of Scripture a condemnation of both unnatural intercourse and masturbation as such. 8 A typical traditional Jewish commentary puts it thus: “[Onan] misused the organs God gave him for propagating the race to unnaturally satisfy his own lust, and he was therefore deserving of death.” 9 And this is undoubtedly in accord with the natural impression which most unprejudiced readers will draw from the text of Genesis 38.
And one more:
The Encyclopedia Judaica (Vol.4,p.1054, article “Birth Control”) states: "Jewish tradition ascribed the practice of birth control to the depraved humanity before Noah (Gen. R. 23:2,4; Rashi to Gen. 4:19,23)." (For further confirmation of Jewish views on this point, cf. H. Hirsch Cohen, The Dunkenness of Noah [University of Alabama Press.].) The Encyclopedia article adds that on the basis of Gen. 38:9-10, “the Talmud sternly inveighs against ‘bringing forth the seed in vain’, considering it a cardinal sin (Nid. 13a). . . . Strictly Orthodox [Jews, . . . . for religious reasons, refuse to resort to birth control.” **In the same Encyclopedia, under “Onanism” (Vol. 12, p.1495), it is stated that the act of Onan "is taken . . . by the Talmud (Yev. 34b) to refer either to unnatural intercourse or (cf.Nid. 13a) to masturbation.
The Zohar [a 13th century work] expatiates on the evil of onanism in the second sense." Other works by Jewish authors corroborating this tradition include D. Feldman, Marital Relations, Birth Control and Abortion in Jewish Law (New York: Schocken Books, 1974) and J. Cohen, Be Fertile, Increase, Fill the Earth and Mater It (Cornell University Press, 1989).

Lets all wear suits of armour then we wouldnt be able to have sex at all im sure that some catholics would actually do that. im sorry to be flippent but its all getting too much. if the church doesnt change their stance on this the catholic church will continue to decline or be full of catholics who use birth control anyway.

“I’m sorry to be flippant.” It doesn’t show! Have you actually read the reasoning in the Church’s teaching on contraception? Humanae Vitae etc? What gives you the right to speak so harshly and arrogantly? And how can your opinion hold up to the unchanging teachings of an institution founded by Christ Himself that has existed nearly 2000 years?

i have had plenty of posts that have spoken harshly to me i can assure you. This is going nowhere the point is still that most practising catholics use birth control why not admit it no one seems to take this point seriously

I would love to have a serious conversation with you about this. I found your last comment a little offensive, to be honest. And others’ being harsh is no excuse, right? I’m sorry that I got annoyed and came down a little hard on you - but, had I spoken the point in a gentler way, I would still hold to it.

Anyway, the number of Catholics that use birth control is not a factor in determining whether it is valid. You are totally correct in saying that Catholics use it, and this is a sad thing. The rest of us Catholics can try to live and spread our faith better, and hopefully make a difference. I am a young woman, in my twenties, and have been married for just over two years. My husband and I have one child, and we do not/have not/will not contracept. The Church is Wise, and she is the institution founded by Christ. There are so many issues we could talk about. The authority of the Church, the morality of contraception, how and when the Church accepts NFP as a means to keep from becoming pregnant. There are others too. Where do you want to start?

Plenty of people, both lay & clergy, take this point seriously. You seem to be proposing that the Church abandon a doctrinal truth because a majority of Catholics use birth control anyway.

It is not “harsh” for people to point out that the truth is not subject to popular vote.

The Church can’t change it’s stance on this, because it is not simply an “outdated opinion.”

Whether it declines or not due to people’s acceptance or refusal of the truth is irrelevant.

I recommend you read “Theology of the Body”, and then Christopher West’s “Good News about Sex & Marriage” to try to reach understanding of what the Church teaches about this subject & why.

God bless,

Chris

I think they were called chastity belts… anyway, I urge you to read and discuss with your husband TOB. It is a very different view of the value of the body. Specifically, there are some books specifically geared for marital relations. It’s only part of the story, so be warned ahead of time. Christopher West is just one author of such good and focused works. Popcak, I’m told, is another.

And yes, I get annoyed, too, with those who try to determine who is Catholic and who is not based on the difficulty of acceptiong absolutely all teachings at face value RIGHT NOW. The Church is patient. Humans, not so much.

I urge you to ignore the debate and investigate approved texts on the subject and make up your own mind.

Peace to you.

The Church teaches that sex is reserved for marriage, but most Catholics have sex outside of marriage.

Should the Church ditch that teaching too?

So, explain - how is it different? It doesn’t seem to different according to your logic. Lots of Catholics use birth control, therefore it should be ok. Lots of Catholics have premarital sex, therefore… The point is that the number of people that do something is not a basis for its legitimacy. By the way, Burdock, are you reading any Catholic materials on the teaching against contraception right now?

I hate to blow your theory, but birth control does not always harm a marriage. My husband and I have been married for 25 years. During those years, there have been times when we used contraception and times when we did not… Our level of love, trust, commitment and unity did not change or depend on whether or not we used birth control. (I will say that we never used the birth control pill, but relied on other methods instead.)

I have never been divorced or had an abortion; neither one of us has ever been unfaithful to the
other.

I never felt that I was “rendered a means to achieve pleasure.” The pleasure is mutal and something that a couple gives to each other. That is part of the unitive aspect of marriage.

Whether or not to use contraception is a decision between a couple and God…no one else. It is a decision that is as individual as the people and circumstances involved. My husband and I have always been in agreement and at peace with God in the choices we made. I guess God intended us for each other. What a blessing that has been!
I am glad that you have a blessed marriage and this response is not meant to be confrontational.
It’s just the best way I can describe how I believe.
So. in Christian love & respect for your beliefs
I submit the following:

You do not have the power to blow anyone’s theory
nor do I ,or anyone else have the power to blow your theory. The truth is the truth only to the beholder.
I believe that a person will live and die with their own belief system formed by their own choices.

That said, here is what I believe.

The church that JESUS established on the earth teaches that when a person does something seriously wrong and they know it’s wrong and they do it anyway, they have commited mortal sin and need to ask GOD’s forgiveness.
According to the CATECHISM of the CATHOLIC CHURCH # 2370 states " every action which, whether in anticipation of the conjugal act, or in it’s accomplishment,or in the development of it’s natural consequences, proposes, whether as an ends or a means, to render procreation impossible" is intrinsically evil.

These are not my words, but I choose to believe them.So the decision to believe this view of contraception is between the individual & GOD.
Respectfully, Steve

SO icant become a catholic because i dont see a problem with contraception but the church is full of catholics who contracept something wrong here somewhere dont you think.
