Special Edits in the bible

So I had a religion instructor tell me a couple years ago, who also doubled as a Methodist minister two things in which I wish I couldn’t find sources of.

The first being that the story of Barabbas was added into the new testament and that this did not really happen with the prisoner exchange.
Also that upon Judas’s betrayal of Jesus; the betrayal was being motivated by political reasons upon speculation that Jesus would drive the Romans out of their country rather then the way things went and that Judas was a bit impatient.

Lastly, There are more second hand accounts of Jesus outside of the bible then what there are Julias Ceaser. Really? Where can I find these, I read an exert from the ancient book
" The Histories " which was a record written by some ancient king traveling which notates the followers of this Jesus gaining in numbers.

Anyway, Just thought I’d throw that out here, there was some others like the origin of the Christmas tree.

I feel that the burden of proof rests on the one who is making these strange claims.

To the Barabbas-claims: While there has been some discussion about the origin of the name, the original name and its meaning, to my knowledge, there are no claims (and no proof) for this part of the gospel being added later on. Such claims could only be made if we had old manuscripts of the Gospel where those parts were missing, and (again, to my knowledge) we haven’t.

Judas: This is a speculation that might be not so far off as the first one, but will always remain a speculation. We know that many Jews of the time expected the messiah to be a liberator from the (Roman) oppression. It is possible Judas might have had thoughts in this direction, too, but alas, SPECULATION.

And the burden of proof is DEFINITELY with that guy on all those sources accounting the life of Jesus outside the bible. Perhaps he is counting all those “gospels” that didn’t make it into the canon as trustworthy and true, too… but we shouldn’t imitate that, should we?
