I always add special intention for praying the Rosary or Divine Mercy Chaplet, just like we can submit special intention for the mass.

Example of my intention for praying the Rosary:
Holy Mother of God, I offer this Sorrowful mystery for the holy souls in purgatory.

I am learning to recite the Liturgy of the Hours.
Is it common or we, lay people, just don’t do special intention for the LOTH / DO?
or…
Is it an acceptable practice to say this before reciting the office?
For example:
Lord Jesus Christ, I offer this Vesper for the holy souls in purgatory.

Thanks.
David

I’ll bump your post up so someone will hopefully answer 🙂
God bless.

You most definitely can do this. And I heard somewhere it’s ok to make your requests generous!

The General Instructions for the Liturgy of the Hours say it is appropriate to add prayer intentions to the written intercessions just before the Our Father, especially at Vespers. So, there’s actually a built-in time for you to mention your intention if you wish. You should just keep the last intention of Vespers for the dead, as prescribed.
  1. It is permissible, however, to include particular intentions at both morning prayer and evening prayer.

Thank you very much 🙂 for bringing to my attention that there is The General Instructions for the Liturgy of the Hours to help with navigating the LOTH.

This is so very helpful for my prayer and I am indebted to Cor_ad_Cor for your due diligence.
God bless you.

thank you LittleFlower378 for your encouragement to be generous in my prayer request.

(name removed by moderator), your opinion is in line with the recommendation in The General Instructions for the Liturgy of the Hours

Thanks!

Greenfields thanks for your helpful bump .
Maybe because of your bump, now I get the answer I need.

There are intecessary prayers built into Morning & Evening prayers. You are supposed to add your own intentions after this, just like during the Mass.

All the hours are offerings to God with the intention to sanctify the day.
