To see Lourdes…what a great blessings. I dont think my budget will ever cope with such a trip but rejoice that those who do travel there are blessed with a Plenary Indulgence…

Man, I went there two years early!

Kidding, I highly recommend; there is narry a more peaceful or spitirtual place on Earth that I have seen.

Well, I have not been…being french et al, I wish I could. I have been to France with hubby where he worked 12 hours days. At the desk in Lyons, I asked if I could take a taxi to Lourdes. The concierge laughed! He said it would be too far to travel for only an excursion…I blushed, not realizing the distance. I can say I tried!😃

Of all my travels, Assisi would be very high on the list for the peace I have experienced. It was palpable. The second place was not the greatest place, but, it was at the foot of the staircase where Jesus was condemned to death by Pilate. These are the only 2 places I felt extreme peace. And I have travelled to Israel twice.

Don’t worry if you cannot afford to go. You can get a plenary indulgence for much easier things like:
  1. praying five decades of the Rosary (in a row ) in a church in the presence of the blessed sacrament (if alone), or anywhere if prayed in a group, such as a family praying together or
  2. spending half an hour in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, either exposed or in the tabernacle or
  3. spending half an hour devoutly reading sacred scripture or
  4. praying the stations of the cross using stations erected in a church

Hi BarbaraTherese,
You can get the special “Lourdes” Plenary indulgence here in Australia (and in other parts of the world). The details are in the link which Shoshana put in at the beggining of this thread to the Australian Cathnews website.

A visit to the Earlwood Lourdes shrine in Sydney, or to one of the Sydney churches named Our Lady of Lourdes plus the usual conditions will do it for me. South Australia would most likely have some special church or shrine to do with Our Lady of Lourdes.

The indulgence is not just for the actual grotto in Lourdes, France. It is also for special places dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. The article on Cathnews will explain and as Stove said in this thread there are other ways to gain Plenary indulgences as well.

For the “Lourdes” plenary indulgence, there is a time frame of nine days (in February), for places other than Lourdes in France and for the whole jubilee year (which started on December 8, this year) at the grotto in Lourdes France.

And as another poster in this thread said regarding Lourdes: **I went there two years early! ** I did too. 🤷 :crying:

Lourdes is a beautiful place. At the current time there is a landscapers who is working out a quote to build a Lourdes grotto in our backyard. He is hinting that it will be expensive. I will wait and see and if it is expensive I will look for another option.

Greetings and prayers for all your intentions,
Mary Ann

Only the first name of the person is needed for the purpose of this novena. Everyone is invited to send names: parents, grandparents, teachers, doctors, aunties, therapists etc.
