Is it a sin to use birth control pills for other medical reasons? It is important to know that the woman who would be taking these pills could not get pregnant even if she was NOT taking them. So they are in no way be used to prevent pregnancy. Is this ok…does whether or not this woman is having sex play a role as to whether this is sinful?

If she is using them for a medical purpose that is not related to birth control, she is not sinning, even if she is married.

So it would be legit even if the medical reason was NOT a life or death thing?

Yes, because the intent was not to contracept, rather, the contraception would then be an unintended side effect of the pill.

That said, if other medications can be found, they should be used. But since the pill does have hormone-balancing applications too, their use for this purpose is legit.

I had to for a while, but after talking to my doc, I realized that they weren’t necessary and there were other treatments.

If she has PCOS, I’d suggest visiting here to check out some alternatives:

Thank you so much everyone. This lady had a priest tell her differently, but I had a feeling he was wrong…especially considering the fact that even if she were not taking the pills, she still couldn’t get pregnant. Does anyone have a good source or something that I can show her, since she still might not believe that the priest might be wrong.

This is a quote from Humanae Vitae, which can be found here

"Lawful Therapeutic Means
  1. On the other hand, the Church does not consider at all illicit the use of those therapeutic means necessary to cure bodily diseases, even if a foreseeable impediment to procreation should result there from—provided such impediment is not directly intended for any motive whatsoever.(19) "
That being said, there are usually alternatives to contraceptives as medicinal drugs. Just ask the doctor.
