Hi all!

I used to be super duper into anime and manga and the like…and specifically, before I was became a Catholic, I was into some err, not so Catholic manga. Some of it was a bit…explicit (lots of nudity, flagrant homosexuality, sexual over/undertones, devil worship).

But now I want to get rid of the stuff I have but I’m hesitant to sell it to a used bookstore because…referencing Romans Ch 14, which basically says I should not do something if it causes my brothers and sisters to fall into sin…would it be right to sell my explicit manga? Or would it just cause another one of my brothers and sisters to fall into sin and therefore be a morally wrong decision??

If not, what should I do with my manga/anime???

Thanks
👍👍👍

(I think I know the answer, but I wanna get some feedback)

Some years ago a relative gave me the whole Left Behind set of books. I sold them at a yard sale. Later I thought it might have been better to dump them since they are anti-Catholic - wish I had. I wonder if someone read it who wouldn’t have and became anti-Catholic because of it. 😦

So you have a chance to do better than me - I’d dump them. (That’s the answer you expected, right?)

What if you re-framed the question: I have some hardcore porn magazines that I used to be into, but I no longer find moral because of a deepening of my faith. Is it okay to sell them?

The answer is obvious. So the answer to your question I think depends upon how “bad” those manga are. There is literature that depicts homosexuality and even devil worship (see the Bible) which would not be necessarily immoral, if it doesn’t explicitly glorify it or make it an inappropriate running theme.

There is some stuff out there that isn’t quite up to Catholic values, but isn’t completely bad, and has some moral and artistic value. It’s a process of discernment. Then again, there’s stuff that is obviously just no good.

Censorship is one thing. What’s rightfully in your possession is another. I say do what your heart tells you.

The person you’re selling to isn’t your ‘brother.’ It’s the person buying your stuff. That’s it. This rogue certainly wouldn’t consider you one if you told me your reason for getting rid of potential source material. Despite that, the perks of being a so-called hopeless case and no longer caring is that you at least have someone who’ll be happy to take such ‘filth’ off your hands. 👍

I for one would only find cause to question a God who’d rain wrath on a person just because I bought something from them.

Personally, I’d throw the stuff out. Think of it this way, by throwing that stuff out, you are removing a possible occasion of sin from someone’s life, thereby doing a big favor for someone you don’t even know. God’s reward to you will be far greater than any money you’d get from selling the stuff. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it! LOL 😃
