Specifics on fasting during Lent?

Hello.

Just to clarify when is the fasting, almsgiving and prayer (specifically prescribed by the Church) to occur on? Ash Wednesday and Good Friday? Or all Wednesdays and Fridays in Lent.

The fast = one normal size meal and (2) 1/2 sized meals per day only, correct?

re: abstaining from meat: I think Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent for this discipline correct?

plus; our personal denying of self.

LionHeart, you have a good understanding of the basics - and you’re not even officially Catholic yet! Good for you. I wish you a very holy Lent and the happiest Easter ever.

Now, may I please ask you a question? Please don’t take this as a criticism - I really just want to understand. The question you brought up in this thread has been asked and answered in threads all over Catholic Answers for the last week. Is there something that kept you from finding the answer you needed among these threads? Is there some way to make it easier for you to find immediately without having to wait for someone to reply? Or is it a difference in approach to the boards - do some people sign on and browse around for awhile before posting anything new and others go directly to asking a question before doing anything else? The question of duplicate threads has been around for a long time, and I was hoping you could shed some light on it for us.

And please don’t think there isn’t always someone delighted to help with whatever question you post, no matter how many times it has appeared before. We don’t want anyone to go without an answer or feel unwelcome to ask.

To be honest, if you want an answer; my own laziness. Please forgive me all. While I didn’t know there was other threads (until later when I saw one in the Apologetics section), I also didn’t bother to look either. I knew I could have surfed the net and got an answer too.

In that respect, sorry for making you do my work everyone. However, in my experience people are often very knowledgable and glad to help on this forum.

Fasting is to occur on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during Lent. Abstinence is also to occur on Ash Wednesday. I am not sure but I think that abstinence is prescribed for Good Friday as well.

You have it backwards - Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the only days of fast (eating less).

Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent, including Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat.
